Seriously, CVT is very, very good indeed. People used to enjoy a joke on the DAF elastic bands but the system was very fundamentally sound and more efficient than a conventional autobox...

Behavour initially appeared a bit bizarre; the engine revs would barely change as the car road speed changed. Accelleration could be very rapid as the optimum ratio was always selected.
