Unread post by sportingfiat »

just gone to change all my brakes and noticed the rubber around the drivers side piston is all split, as soon as tried to wind it in got covered in brake fluid :(

is the piston rubber available as a seperate item or is it a new caliper job???

hope its not a major job as off to france sunday so need my car :(

If the fluid is leaking out, then it needs a new piston seal - the gaiter on the outside is just to stop dirt getting in and corroding the piston. Providing the bore or piston are not scored then it's a standard job of fitting a seal kit to the caliper. Should be available at the dealer off the shelf, if not from you local motor factor.

Had a look on the Eurocarparts website and can't locate a seal kit. the new calipers are very expensive!

Worth trying for seals first as long as the pistons and bores are in good condition.

£78 isn't too bad - ECP listed them at £78 + a surcharge of £45, total £123, a high price, I thought (+VAT too IIRC)
