fuel hose internal diameter

Unread post by falling-out-with-my-car »

Hi,

I am considering purchasing a flat plate heat exchanger to heat veg oil before it enters my Bosch fuel pump on my citroen xantia Mk2 1,9 TD 1998.

does anyone know what the internal diameter of the fuel hose is between the filter housing and the Bosch pump banjo please. if not then the outside diameter of the pump banjo would be helpful if anyone has a pump knocking about in their shed.

will it fit over an 8mm pipe?

this is not the only upgrade I shall be fitting to my car to burn veg oil, I shall also be fitting a pump heater and injector heaters.

many thanks in advance Nigel.

If it's any help, a used hose I have (one from the primer bulb) has a stretched ID of 7.68mm.

EDIT: I just measured the OD of the clear plastic hose (fuel filter to pump) and it's 7.69mm.

In proper measurements (which fuel hose is still measured in) it's 5/16"

As a rough guide, for those not au-fait with proper measurements, the following rule-of-thumb conversions are handy to know:

1/4" = 6mm

5/16" = 8mm

3/8" = 10mm

1/2" = 12.5mm

3/4" is exactly (as makes no odds) 19mm

13/16" = 21mm

1mm = 40 'thou (roughly)

An M6 thread is as near as dammit identical to 0BA

Thanks everyone thats answered my question very well. Jim I shall print off the above and keep it.

if Mike says the outside diameter of the clear plastic fuel line from the filter to pump is 7.69mm surely the internal measurement is going to be much smaller although the end does look as though it is streched larger than the rest of the pipe. so if I go with 8mm it should be ok. I'll give it a go.

I'll go an get some fuel line hose from the scrappy and that should suffice for connecting up my new FPHE veg oil heater.

once again many thanks

Nigel.
