Wet C5

Unread post by mooseshaver »

Hello, my C5 Mk2 has a large amount of water in the passenger footwell.
Last night was the first night of real rain up here since I have bought the car so have not seen it happen before.
Any ideas where it could have come from? (apart from the sky)

Oh dear, sounds like the C5 suffers the same as the Xantia.

Got to be a good idea to check the windscreen scuttle seal first...

Would that fit with just the bottom bit of the footwell wet, not the sort of rampy bit up the front?
Is the scuttle the bit under the bonet below window?

Odd, never heard of this with a C5 before.

Can you tell if its got the original windscreen?

Check to see if its rubbers are all good and tight, it may well be leaking in from the top, own onto the footwell.

Best get the hose pipe out!

Then you don't read all the posts in this forum then :-)

Go and have a look at "water in footwell" Aug 2009.

I also have had exactly this problem on a Mk1 estate which appeared to be due to sunroof drains.

Worth doing a forum search on "sunroof" and "water" there are loads of other posts which I have not looked at.

I have the same problem. After a heavy rain, in passenger footwell was flooded.

Under windscreen, please remove that grill or, without removing - get a solid cable (i`ve used a hose cable from my bicycle) and remove the mud cap which is blocking the drain hole on the passenger side till you reach out the ground behind the weel.

I dont have sunroof and water was infiltrating through cabin air vent.
Hope this would help you!

As viorelovidiu points out, it is most likely to be the ventilation/air conditioning drains that are clogged with rubbish entering through the air intake below the windscreen.
I'm expecting this happening to mine as I park under a tree and the intake is always buried in dead leaves and other rubbish.

I doubt it would be the heater maxtrix as it happened after a heavy downpour of rain?

Also a VTR C5 wont have a sunroof unless it has it as an option.

Vents looks the likely place to start looking then.

Thanks for allt he replies everyone. I have taken a curtain wire to it this morning, and found where it comes out. I could not see a blockage just some water covering the hole, but it could have gone, it got lower over a short time and now the carpet just needs to dry.
I have recently had mud flaps fitted, and thats where the hole is, so perhaps something was lodged between the two?
If I go up the drain on the passenger side, I seem to come out behind the wheel arch somewhere, but going down its straight down.
Drivers side seems fine, few drips of water.

The windscreen looks ok as far as I can tell.

I've come across this problem too, when so-called windscreec experts have fitted a new screen. They skimp on the sealant then as the screen is set in place some small gaps form. It's extremely bad looking on a nearly new Mercedes when the replacement screen has been poorly fitted!!!
:D  I used to have a black '92 BX GTi 4x4; I wonder where it went? :D

Me again, to the outside of the bonnet struts under the engine bay, the metal has gaps where the bits join together (its beside the plastic grill bit below windscreen), there is a gap that has water in it (its raining) and lots of dead leaves. where is the water supposed to go? I can find any drain holes either side. I can't get my hands in so have had a job getting the leaves out.
Is it something to worry about?

My C5 had a similar problem, wet carpets after a downpour.

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=29048

I removed a couple of leaves from around the scuttle and bonnet hinges. The C5 has a number of extra holes around the bonnet hinges compared to the Xantia and although there were only a couple of leaves in there, removing what little was there stopped the carpets getting wet again.

I've had a new windscreen\scuttle seal fitted to my C5 and it hasn't leaked for at least a month! Hoorah. Its a known fault with the C5, Citroen have a bulletin and modified seal, but as usual if you are out of warrenty you have to pay, and the warrenty company would not pay out as they do not cover water ingress :(
