where to refil the gearbox

mr haynes doesnt realy help me locate the level/ refil bolt on the gearbox please help

BE3 is on the nearside butt end, I think. Having a pump type filler helps, and you will probably need to pull back the splash shield. Without knowing any better, I suspect the ML5T will be similarly located.

The ML5 as fitted to an Activa is different to the BE3. The filler/level plug is on the back of the diff housing and very difficult to reach.

Normally, to do a change, drain and measure what comes out and refill via the reversing light switch thread after removing the switch. If the 'box is dry and has not leaked, the existing oil will be at more or less the right level.

If you are not sure of the existing level or are refilling after the 'box has bee drained because of driveshaft removal, say, then add 1.7 litres and all should be well.

The only oil to use in an ML5 is 75W/80 gearbox oil especially formulated for Citroen/Peugeot gearboxes. Typically Total BV or the equivalent Comma oil; don't be fobbed off with another grade the factor tells you "will do". It won't.

It's the only gear oil I've seen that won't sluice off in a parts washer. The workshop has some in an oilcan for underbody lube where regular oils don't last in our dusty environment. I have it all over the HC linkages.

You'll find the knockers have never tried it. Paris runs a 75-80W with G70 locally made Teflon paste additive, as Alan S used to like recommending. If we didn't have those supplies in bulk, I'd put in Redline.
