1995 Citroen Xantia Activa 2.0L Petrol Turbo

Unread post by LostInSpace »

Hello Activa-istas

I've had the clutch done by a local garage and been advised it will need a new clutch slave cylinder soon.

The clutch pedal is not as stiff as it should be.

On phoning a Citroen Main Dealer couldn't locate the part.

Am I missing something?I assume Activas do have these cylinders?

Your advice welcome as always.

The slave cylinder is supplied complete with the master cylinder and the plastic pipe connecting them together in one complete assembly, changing it will be an absolute pig of a job due to where the pipe runs in between and behind the hydraulic pipes.

That's the good news (part number is 2095 48) the cost last time I looked was £450

A clutch on an Activa should be feather light... If it operates correctly, i.e it goes into gears fine, and the clutch bites around the middle to top point, its fine. Its a sealed unit, so its possible the garage buggered it up and the pushrod on the slave cylinder popped out.

If the clutch was light before a change, thats what i would be looking at and investigating into the garage that done it to see if they can swallow some of the cost - assuming you could hold them liable!

If the clutch hydraulic system has lost its fluid, it can be refilled but it is tedious and you need to be careful of damaging the seals in the slave cylinder if the pin has been ejected.

If it is an early car, 1995(?), the system is no longer available from Citroen, nor is the Peugeot equivalent as fitted to the 406, so I have been told by one of my parts suppliers.

If you can find one in a dealers, it is not such a pain to fit, just long winded.
