Superchipping a 406 2.0 petrol

Does anyone have any experience of chipping a D8 406 petrol non-turbo? My local Superchip agent reckons the mod can give an extra 10 hp & lb/ft but it's not really worth it in terms of noticing the difference.

Does not seem that expensive and am tempted as the car's fairly flat and it might give it that bit more.

Save your money, the generic off the shelf chips are usually rubbish. You may even lose power.

I wouldn't say that's quite true...if you have a completely standard engine then there's nothing wrong with a generic remap, provided it's a reputable one. A live map might provide marginal improvement, but it won't be worth the extra money. If you have made other modifications then a live map is the way to go.

By and large with few exceptions, NA engines don't make big gains with a remap alone. They are probably even being optimistic with a 10hp increase.

More than likely They have to sell them so they have to make some good claims.

By and large, NA PSA engines are pretty optimally tuned for everyday use and economy. I'll be that if Mr. Superdooperchip can get another 10hp from it then you'll pay the price at the pumps..

Better to spend your money on a good service and new cat and exhaust. Old, partially blocked cats in particular are shockers for robbing power.

In fact some "performance" exhaust systems boast of the power increase the system will realise by comparing it against an old, blocked system; you'd see much the same increase by comparing a new standard system against an old one...

There's not much you can do tuning wise with a modern N/A petrol engine. You need to start making physical modifications to get any real power increase.

10hp you could probably get by fitting a new air filter.
