Bloody HP pipe again!

Unread post by KP »

Well yesterday on the way to taking my fine lady(wife not activa!) the activa decided it had been playing happy for too long with the new HP pipe and decided it was due its time to leak again but in a big way!

Last time it was at the pump end it leaked but this time it was at the PR block end it decided to go :(

So i have ripped the pipe out as well as the hydractive centre sphere and soon to be the activa ram sphere and the same at the rear.

Im going to ask martin tomorrow at Plaides how much i'll be looking at for recon spheres and a valve block.

I think that possibly one of the activa spheres or hydractive ones is dying and has been causing the pump to work harder, about 10secs or less between cut in's :( , and that i may as well get them sorted and the PR block done as well while its all in bits and take the chance to blled out the brake lines too.

The hydractive front centre sphere came off easy enough but the block for the PR was a pig due to the return pipe on it being a pig to come off then leaking loads :( Going to be fun getting it back on!

Will see if i can get somewhere like pirtek to make up an exact replica of the original pipe i have from the pump to PR block as i think my attempt to bend it into shape was very poor and possibly helped contribute to the pipes demise as they last for years and i knew some of the bends were maybe too much for it..

Is it worth getting the pump off as well and getting it recon'd while car is off the road for a week or less fingers crossed now?

You gotta love an activas taste for timing! waiting at side of motorway for 40mins recovery on the flatbed then had to zip off when we got back in the swift. 2hr40mins late for dinner!!!!

Oh dear Will

How, precisely, did it let go? Split or what?

I know what a job that return pipe is on the PR block. Just be thankful it's not on a V6

Might be worth having Martin check the pump if he is going to overhaul your PR block and do you some new spheres.

A replacement HP pipe should still be available from the Stealers as a special order and this may be better than a Pirtek one due to the extreme pressures involved.

One thing is to ensure all the rubber-lined "P" clips are present and correct as these are critical to supporting the pipe properly. If you're not sure than I can advise the positioning of them and supply pictures if necessary.

Check that the high tick rate is not caused by a leaky hydractive electrovalve by pulling the hydractive fuse to force hard mode. If the tick rate substantially increases then a valve is leaking in soft mode...

Cheers Jim pics would be great and may try stealers for the pipe after all. Thought of a semi flexible one from pirtek if possible would be better.

The P clips were all in palce as far as i could tell :(

It let go by spewing fluid back from within the compression nut on the PR block which dumped it toward the exhaust.

Post RP7443 its 5270 HL

That should do you as this is not the changeover from MK1 to MK2...
