Whats a 2000 W Reg Xanti HDI Worth

Unread post by THELABMAN »

Hi Guys,

One of my colleagues at work is on the look out for a decent sized family car diesel preferably.

I suggested a Xantia and seen the following on Autotrader:

Autotrader

Now having owned several Xantis over the years and been offerd silly money for a trade in, I know there is no way on earth this is worth £1,350 even with all the work it's had done to it, I was thinking along the lines of £850-900 max what do you all think.

I agree, its not the most desirable model, although the engine is a good un and fairly low miles too. I would say £950 is the best to hope for, and more realistically £8-850.

Hi XantiaMan,

Thanks for the propmpt reply, as you say being an LX it's not the most desirable level of trim but at a reaonably low milage and with the work done to it should be a good one but I'm glad you agree with my area of pricing,

I'm off work to Monday so will let my colleauge know about it and see what they think about haggling as at £1,350 I don't see it going anywhere fast.

The HDis do seem to fetch not bad money - and it says it's a 110, which is better! Front suspension appears to need some attention, so that is a bargaining point. He's a trader though, so must be expecting to shift it at close to that figure. If it's had a new main exhaust pipe, then that is close to 1/3 of the asking price, which puts it into perspective

Whats wrong with LX Spec! its much higher then the S1 LX spec, in that it HAS got, Passenger Electric mirror, Air Con, Front Fog lights, ABS , Front elec windows, the useless traffic master.. 90 or 110 is any ones guess untill you look under the bonnet.. This one should have the LAST of line modified instrument cluster ... if you want to be really piccky, the warning lights are outlines INSTEAD of block lights ... this one ALSO should have an aditional engine cover between the engine and slam panel...

ALSO, then if it IS a 110bhp, pay SPECIAL attention to the clutch release bearing! The 110 uses a pull type clutch SIMMILAR to, but not the same, as the older Turbo D engine, HOWEVER, the release bearings are weak, and can collapse at early milage!! I know, becuase I had a 95k miler in, and the bearing collapsed.. Listen to its operation, if its getting nosy in operation, then budget for replacement soon... Cost? About 250 quid.. the clutch kit itself if around the 150 quid mark!!

Ive now done 3 of these, all 110bhp's all release bearings..

Right, is there any need to highlight so many words with capitals? If the LX was so desirable then they wouldnt have bothered with the Exclusive, after all, no one likes alloy wheels, do they?

An LX is not as desirable as an SX or Exclusive, that is fact. I didnt say there was anything wrong with it?

And FWIW, the late S1 LX did have everything on that list except ABS and Trafficmaster, which is s**t anyway.

Hi Folks,

There isn't much wrong with an LX mines a lot better than the Sensation currently parked up the side of the house, it's got better seats and just generaly feels a better car to drive....

The only main difference I've ever noticed betwenn LX & SX is that in most cases you lose the rear electric windows, drivers mirror and you don't get the sun blind built into the parcel shelf, the SX also seemed to come with CD multi changers.....To get back to this one I'm interested in getting my friend to look at it, it has had a lot of work done and depending on exactly what a "new exhaust" comprises of (is it just the back box?) it's had a fair amount of serious cash spent on it but it's still not worth anything like £1,350.......

My car is a 98 (S) 1.9TD with only 105,00, new timing belt, fan belt & tensioner, new front discs and pads, and withing the past two years new rear pads, front wheel bearings, new drop links, new battery, new radiator and LHM flush and spheres and I've been lucky to get offered £400 for a trade in :(

I paid £1600 last summer for my 90Hdi (First day of Y reg) and I was not robbed. Low miles 38k one owner irreproachable service immaculate.
Haven't spent a cent on the car, except for 2 oil changes, in 11000miles.
I came to UK to get the car because in France I would have had to pay €5-6000 for the same car.

Sounds like you got a very good deal. You will struggle to find a more modern car that is as good all round for such little money.

Xantiaman, I note you have a Maestro Turbo.
My son had one, they only made 500 I believe - might yours have been his? The only things I remember about it were: white, very swift, registration had 666 in it.

There will be some haggle room in that but I doubt £400 to £500. I'm afraid scrappage is having an effect on the price of used cars and at the older age range end, prices are up quite significantly. At 67k miles if looked after it could easily have another 7 or 8 years in it.

It's just how Paul talks in real life

I can't help thinking that Xantiaman's Dagenham Dustbin is anything but mundane actually. A normal Ford yes, but not his...

After all, it HAS to be good to follow in the footsteps of a Meastro Turbo and an Activa :D

We'll know how good it is in due course by measuring the time interval between Gareth selling his Activa and buying another...

Time to visit a turf accountant methinks...

I would never buy any car unless it was different, unique or capable. Still, car forums are always quick to slag off other brands, but i'm afraid sometimes you have to broaden your horizons a little. Xantias have been EXCELLENT to me, and that opinion will never change, especially the Activa, still a great drive in comparison to the ST.
