Scenic '97 towbar fitting - electrics kit needed?

Hi,

Going to fit a towbar to the wife's '97 Scenic. Do I need a car-specific wiring kit or can I just Scotch-lok the wiring in? I'm not aware of any specialised circuits...?

Hi,

I think that you can just scotch clip it into the loom.
I am planning on fitting a towbar to my wifes 03 plate scenic and am planning on scotch cliping the towbar electrics to the cars loom.
It'll be interesting to find out if this is not the case.

When we had our RX4 Scenic - 2001 plate - we bought a renault towbar, the one with the removable ball, and attempted to fit it ourselves. Ive no idea what went wrong with it, but after following the instructions the wiring went all wrong. None of the lights on the car worked as they should, indicators would come on with the brake lights etc. So we took it to the dealers for them to fit it.

Not sure if Scenics are multiplexed? Probably the reason for this if so.

I got a towbar fitted to one of the C5s for about £150 fitted, very god job and a decent looking towbar.

I did the towbar on the 807 (which is multiplexed) myself, managed to get hold of a dedicated wiring kit cheap off of that ebay. It just plugs in the back of the light units.

Citroenmad,

Thats very interesting as I didn't think the scenic to be multiplexed or expect there to be a problem scotch cliping the towbar wiring to the loom (as I did on my 2001 306).
Think a chat with an auto electrician might be on the cards before I do the one on my wifes scenic.
