Corroded electrical connector

I took the carpets out of my Xantia yesterday after realizing I had water in the foot well again.

All going as planned until I noticed this connector in the front passenger foot well.

As you can see it is quite corroded. 1 wire came away when I touched it so I used a small connector block to join them together again.

Will I get away with replacing all the corroded connections in the same way?

Does anyone know what this connector will affect?

I am currently getting alarm problems and the sun roof won't operate. Other that that all is ok.

I had a connector do that one (was on a Ford actually)

I just simply cut it off completely , soldered the wires (carefully checking I was joining what I should be!) and heat-shrinking them afterwards and then wrapped the finished article in some insulation tape. It never gave any trouble after that.

Unless someone can identify the exact circuits, I would advise caution when remaking the connections by isolating the power in case they are related to the pyrotechnics. Also, be sure, if using blocks, that they can handle the higher amps some of the thicker wires might carrying. It might be worth asking Citroen if they sell the connector block with terminals?

Hopefully your sunroof and alarm problems will be solved when you fix it!

I believe the thin wires in that plug are to do with the door mirror, temperature sensor and ultrasonic alarm..

Leave the carpets out until you are dead sure the leak is now gone. If not the scuttle seal, check the heater plenum drain is not broken or blocked. It is hard to access it, easiest from under the car. It's on the bulkead and looks like a little elephants trunk...

Martin,

Was it your Central Locking that STILL didn't work for you after I matched the reciver and PLIP up??

If your having alarm problems this could all be related! Worth getting this plug cleaned up and sorted out..

If it is a MK1 I think you will find some go to the IR sensor in the head
lining

I had same about 6 wires totally corroded I found no earth on the IR I have only made the one connection good and have got the remote working again.
I can lift the carpet and look if that would help.

Bxman, That makes sense mate.

Paul programmed my plip, ir receiver and alarm ecu on another car and they wouldn't work when installed in my car.

That proved I had a problem with mine, and this is the result of my investigation. I am off to try and source another connector today.

Jim,
I had a look today for the heater plenum drain. I couldn't see anything that remotely looked like what you describe.

Can you piont me in the right direction please?

I have use of a pit, so getting under the car won't be a problem.

They do hide Martin..

Here's a picture showing it minus its "elephant trunk":

Access is a fiddle. The metal bit in the foreground is the RH driveshaft to give an idea of the angle to look to see it.

Here's the "elephant trunk" after being repaired..

The spigot can get broken if the heater box is moved, say for matrix replacement, and the "elephant trunk is not removed first.

Repair is easy. Glue a smaller close fitting pipe inside the spigot as shown in the second picture..

I'm not sure what those 2 bits are on the right, in the second picture.

I hope it will all become clear when I find it. I take it that it is held in place with 2 screws.

Is this an overflow pipe to divert unwanted water out of the heating system?

Is this drain only on cars with air con?

If so that will explain why I haven't got 1.

I had another look today to find no evidence of 1 being there at all. Not even a broken pipe.

Are we talking about water getting into the car?? Or have I missed a post about why we are looking for Air Con drain pipes?

Is your scuttle trim SECULEY glued to the winscreen?? Or, have you checked for blockage of the Sunroof drain holes??

(Thats if we are talking about water getting in)

If not, then ignore me...

Paul, it is def my scuttle that is causing the water ingress. Jim was asking if I had checked the above drain to see if that was contributing to the problem.

It took me a few checks to realize that I don't have 1..

On the plus side, now the car is starting to dry out things are starting to work again.

Including the central locking and plip keyfob...
