LOL. The original Xantiaman made a post about 6 years ago, just the one, and never came back. I'd get shot of him  May just change it to GarethK, that will confuse people!

If he hasn't been back in six years his membership may justifiably be revoked.

Problem is I don't know how the database would react to that, you could lose your post count and end up as him with just the one post.

We can try it and see but no guarantees are offered or implied. Customer services staff have all resigned.

I'm no expert, but if the original was deleted and then mine edited, shouldnt affect my post count or anything else. Been a while since i was admin on a forum!

Delete xantiaman completely and then rename Gareth's account to Xantiaman. Alternatively, rename xantiaman to something else and then rename Gareth's usermane to Xantiaman...

The act of deletion completely removes all trace of the user and any posts made by that user will appear to be from the user "guest"

Your post count and etc will be unaffected by a username change Gareth. Note that you will use your new name to log in after the change is made. so liaise with either Steve, Xac or I when you want the deed done...

Names are just for human convenience as far as the database is concerned. It does not actually use them. In the database we're all just numbers. We have no names  The number the database knows you as does not change even if you change your name.

Didn't fancy landing you with another Father Ted fiasco Jim, hence that tentative approach :)

No worries, pencils have erasers, databases have backups

Learned a lot from the Father Ted episode just how the database hung together so it was valuable.

Updated.

Tell you what, this thread really does tell a story. Quite sad seeing the pictures from the beginning, and all the improvements made.
