Alternator removal

Hi all,I am having a little trouble removing the alternator from the engine bay,just wondered if I have to remove half the car.Many thanks for any advice.19td with ac Preg.

What vehicle ?

Some 1.9td's you have to whip the oil filter off for easy access (I know I did this on a couple of Pug 406's anyway)

Spider, thank you very much for the very fast reply.That is what I did along with the turbo pipe,scrapped my knuckles and what do you know out it popped, many thanks again,pridz

You're welcome :)

Might sound obvious (sorry!) , take care not to get any dirt etc into the exposed filter housing (or indeed into the removed filter)
