Putting Forte into my Xantia forte

Unread post by rmunns »

I want to put some Forte coolant treatment into my Xantia but have some concerns about bleeding afterwards. I think I have a cunning plan.........

Will I avoid the need to bleed if I connect a tube and funnel to the radiator tap (before opening the tap), then raise it above the radiator header tank, take off header tank cap, undo radiator tap, then pour the forte into the funnel? Existing coolant would be displaced out of the header tank.
Then close radiator tap, remove tube and use it to syphon out of the header tank to get the fluid level correct again?

Seems a lot of bother...

They're not that difficult to bleed but to be honest, if you let out a litre or so from a full expansion tank via the drain tap, it won't need bleeding anyway in my experience. It's only if the water level falls really low that bleeding is needed.

What engine is it? Just so the procedure applicable to yours can be advised...

Jim, it would be nice not to have to go through the rigmarole I stated.
It's a 2000 Hdi90.

Is it Forte coolent system cleaner your wanting to use? Prior to a collent change? Or the cooling system conditioner? If your just wanting to use that my advice would be to put it in with fresh coolent after you have used the system cleaner. Though using it with old coolent should be fine, though its probably worth changing it if its not been done recently.
