Xantia Speedo again.

Unread post by trooper30 »

Alright fellas, and happy new year.

Well i had the connection of me speedo where it goes on the gearbox, give it a clean, connections look good no signs of corousion butand still nowt :(
If it was a dash failing would other dash instuments start playing up as well as the speedo?

More than likely.
I imagine that it will be the stepper motor in the speedo that is cabbaged.
If you are not bothered about the tacho then you can swap them over, otherwise a visit to a breakers to source another may be in order.

There is a place that refurbishes dead and dying displays, will post a link when I remember who they might be.

Don't have any experience with the Xantia but I have had a couple of cases of dry joints on the XM instrument panel only affecting the speedo. Its where the input sockets are anchored to the board, if you look at the back you can very often see cracks in the solder around the pins.

Owen,

If you want to test the speedo head, I have a MK2 instrument pack you can borrow. It's not fully compatible with yours so no good as a permanant fix but it will prove a point.

I also recall reading in a thread where a cracked soldering behind the instrument panel caused this kind of problem.
It was a newer Xantia than mine and I was thinking myself that if this job is waiting for me in the future :?
Solution was to solder again properly.
