I wouldn't blow air directly into the pipe as you will then introduce air into the pump which isn't what you want at all. Best bet is to have it all connected up as it should be to make sure you have a good supply of LHM for the pump to suck on.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Back to the drawing board
Tried Jims idea and I am getting a nice steady drip from regulator when pouring the LHM into feed hose at tank. Slackened the union nearly off.
Also did what Stempy was doing and puffed up the LHM tank with compressed air and engine running.
Why is car locked on high and has not moved or dropped one mm in 3 days?
When turning ignition off there is a very short squeal from pump area (millisecond)........no noise when running. To go back to one of my earlier questions. The spring under the large bolt union...is that there to control flow by impeding it? There is no ball valve in there ?

Don't know how cold it is up there but it's not something silly like the height correctors frozen in the up position? Does the lever move easily? I'd suggest lighting a fire under it but you've probably thought of that already

Yes, there is!lexi wrote:There is no ball valve in there ?
Under the hexogon, which contains a delivery valve staked in, is a big spring and at the bottom of the spring sits a ball bearing in the piston.
The piston (one of the two pumping elements) is like a U shaped bucket with a hole in the bottom and the ball bearing keeps that hole closed by pressure from the spring.
If the ball bearing is not there then you'll never build pressure.
Did you remove the spring? Chances are, if you did, the ball came out along with it, you did not spot it and the ball made a bid for freedom...
No worries, I have a spare ball you can have but not a spring...

Very cold up here mate......especially under the car. Checked the movement of that today. I had only just lubed it all the other day and it all moves nicely with the dog bone still there.
It`s starting brilliantly as well but no brakes or suspension
.
Any more suggestions as I aint looking forward to another severe hand bruising session with that inevitable pump removal that`s looming.

Aha! Never saw ball at all
On removing spring there was so much fluid that I think it will have pushed ball out. I cleaned and dried all off and noticed the small hole and thought it strange that the spring would sit across the oriface. Not having a drawing I put it back together thinking spring may be to reduce flow (unusual) .
I did ask it back in thread ( first post)....ah well hopefully this could be cause........and no cause without reason

The car HAS anti sink...
While the SYSTEM PRESSURE is below a certain pressure value, the struts WILL STAY locked UP IN HIGH untill you get full system pressure up to open the anti sink valves.....

Yep, looks like you've lost your ball Lexi
If you look at the delivery valve that is in the hexagon you remove, there is no ball there, what just looks like a flat plate if you look into the bottom of the hole. The ball goes into the bottom of the U shaped piston and as you say, the LHM could well have pushed it out. It's only a little ball.
If you look down into the piston and see no ball, that's it! If so, PM me your address and I'll pop one in the post....
Would a little drawing help to confirm all this?

It`s the gravitational pull of the full moon that's done it
Funny thing is that I only removed the spring as there was no rubber seal on my larger union. I thought there may have been bits of it fell in the system. I haven`t removed any hexagon section Jim ....ah sorry mate you mean that 19 mm plug that holds the pipe union.........yes removed that to put my new seal on. As long as the ball goes under that spring all should be good.
If this is a first on the forum for doing this I will be expecting a prize of some sort
Maybe a weekend use of a DS 8)
