Test driving an SX Xantia

OK, rather than the actual model, what happened there is the pipe connections changed - then changed back!

They may have gone from a double flare to bubble, then back - I don't know - but I assure you it's not simply an HDi thing.

I've been poring over the hydraulic differences for months, trying to work out what really needs swapping for an Activa conversion.

Just out of interest, where does the pressure regulator mount to the engine? Does it mount on the block or on the sump?

Not sure if it was your post or another, the regulator is attached to the FRONT of the GEARBOX, right between the gearbox/engine join, you cant miss it, it has a GREEN Sphere screwed into it AT THE FRONT... under the intercooler pipes...

Cheers Paul, I knew it was on the front with the accumulator sphere, but I wasn't sure where it attached. Does it half bolt to the gearbox half the engine, or bolted completly onto the gearbox?

Potentially yeah, I'd hopefully find a bosch pumped 2.1TD off an XM but I'm not sure yet. My dad would have my 306 instead, he seems to like it quite a lot so would make sense for him to have it.

No Dom, two 11mm bolts hold it to the mating edge of the bell house of the gearbox... so it needs to come away in the event of a clutch change.

Brill cheers. I was just wondering for if I look at a scrappers engine, needed to know where to look for mounting lugs for the regulator.

As far as I know, all PSA BE3 and ML5 gearboxes have the mounts for the pressure regulator, even if they are destined for a Pug...

I can photograph the mounts for you if need be Dommo...

Good luck with that project then, should be pretty awesome if you do it. Though i hope no Xms have to be sacrificed! Finding a 2.1TD engine from an Xm might not be that easy though, would a 406 not be easier to source it from? Im sure we could live without another 406

Xms are somewhat rarer though.

You obviously dont need a car in a hurry then?

I couldn't get a donor car unless it was a total write off, I just couldnt bring myself to butcher a perfectly good car. Using a 406 engine is one of the reasons I asked about the mounts for the regulator, but where would I mount the high pressure pump on a peugeot engine? I'd probably have to alter the way ancillarys bolt up which I couldn't be arsed with to be honest. Best bet is to keep an eye out for a 2.1 xantia/xm engine on ebay I reckon. I should be ok without pictures thanks Jim. As long as I know roughly where to look. But if it's a 2 minute job and you don't mind it may prove useful, thanks.

And no I dont need a car soon as I've got my 306 still, I was just looking out for my dad as his vectra's clutch is knackered beyond belief but theres a bit too much rust on the car to bother spending the money on getting it fixed.

Edit - The vectra is still just about useable though so a new car's not necessary right now

Peugeot/Citroen engines are EXACTLY and I mean EXACTLY the SAME ! Meaning ALL bolt holes, threaded holes etc etc are ALL present in either car!

The HP Pump WILL go EXACTLY were the PAS Pump is on a Pug!

Dont fret! Be assured! GET A 406 engine! You'll be surprised how exactly the same they are.. I got a Xsara HDi engine, and fitted it to a Xantia!! Easy!

That's handy to know, cheers, seems to be a lot more 2.1 406's around than xantias..

Where does the PAS pump go after you move it for the HP pump? Where the alternator goes? Basically can you keep AC, PAS, alternator, and HP pump without changing any parts, just moving them around? And do you need to change any tensioner positions?

You throw the PAS Pump away, as the Xantia uses a Central HP Pump to Power suspension and Steering, theres TWO feed pipes, one goes to the suspension Regulator unit on the front of the engine, as discussed earlyer, and the other goes DIRECTLY to the Steering Rack...

The Alitnator and Air Con compressor stay were they are... Tensioner units will Swap around from to the other... its all a little like lego! 8)

Hydraulic Citroens don't have a PAS pump as such Dommo; the hydraulic pump is in two parts, known as the 6+2 pump, the six piston side does the PAS and the two piston bit the brakes/suspension.

You can then use the old Pug PAS pump as a door-stop

Use any 2.1TD engine and if you don't like the (excellent) Lucas EPIC electronic pump, swap it, injectors and pipes for a mechanical Bosch VP20.

Personally I wouldn't but if you have an urge to run on veg than the Lucas is not suitable.
