Used to see a few of these about. Not now. I drove one about 2yrs ago but it had a few issues. It was a car I always fancied...especially the estate.

Hi Lexi

Hoarding!!!!! !!! !!!!!!
That is not quite how the family and friends put it.
In XM terms lots of 2.5 estates are still appearing for sale.
They were probably the largest selling version of the Mk2 XM.
They were only made as mid range VSX's and do tend to be high mileage.
So quite hard to find a good one and usually need to pillage other models for leather, aircon etc.
No photos, mine are working cars (typically 30k a year) and set up to stay that way for another 15 years or so.

They are getting rare now, no doubt the car scrappage scheme has done nothing for their numbers either.

Sorry, only a 2.1TD manual:

We looked at a couple of 2.5TD estates a year or so ago, though they were not really very tidy examples and a little rough around the edges. Though they do usually get used as a workhorse i suppose.

I thought id never see a nice diesel estate to buy until this 2.1 came up.

Xm estates are fantastic cars, there are not many estates which rival it for space or drive. Even the C5 is slightly smaller inside and the new one is much smaller than that. If you want one you best find one soonish, before they become evern more scarce.

That`s a Lexi Car. Cracker! Is the 2.5 not more desirable from the power/torque point of view and still similar economy? Just rarer.

V6 xantia is quick nimble and sporty......I don`t really drive like this anymore so can`t see me keeping it long term.

The 2.1TD manaul is the rarest of them all, in diesel form, as most are autos.

Well im led to believe that 2.1s are easier to work on and tend to go on to 300K without many problems at all. I suppose the 2.1TD has more space in the engine bay and is less complex too. That red one has a low 59K miles, it drives so nicely too, i wouldnt really need any more power, its quite gutsy. I believe things can be done to the 2.1TDs to make it even better, block the EGR valve etc.

Its been years since ive been in a 2.5 so i cant really compare them, but the 2.1TDi si far from slow, well the automatic might be but these fairly rare manauals are just as quick as C5 HDi 110s. Economy is very good on the 2.1TD too, i dont think the 2.5s quite match it.

Usually the 2.1TD is an automatic, so it was either a 2.1TD auto or a 2.5 Manual, as there were not too many 2.1TD manauls brought to the Uk for some reason.

Mind i wouldnt mind trying a 2.5TD to see how they compare, its only an extra 20bhp, though i guess it has a lot more torque.
