306 Diesel Stop Soleniod Relay

Unread post by JBPugs »

Hello
I would be grateful if you could offer a bit of advice. My dad has a 1996 306 Diesel and recently had a problem with the Fuel pump (namely the brass bush on the throttle had worn to excess and allowed the fuel to leak from the top of the pump). I machined a bush to replace this and he stripped the pump down and fitted it. The problems started when he started to assemble everything after that - it appears that the fuel stop soleniod had some king of thief protection on and now does not want to supply a current to the stop solenoid. This unit was sheilded by a tamperproof steel bracket, at the back of the fuel pump.
We know that the stop soleniod works as you can take a 12v live straight from the battery and the engine runs fine.
Is there a certain to way to initialise the component with the 4 wires going into it? This was not presenting problems before the pump was stripped. The car is not fitted with a security keypad.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards

If there isn't a keypad, the ignition keys must be of the transponder type though I thought they came along later, there isn't any special procedure to follow as far as I'm aware of, should have started as usual if everything disturbed had been put back correctly.
Is there a fuel cut off inertia switch near one of the suspension turrets, if so try pressing it incase it has tripped.

Could the wires have touched earth while they have been disconected and blown a fuse?

Does the STOP light appear on the dashboard?
If so, it is the immobiliser kicking in.
I believe you can bypass the immobiliser by pressing the alarm button (located next to ignition switch) as soon as the battery is re-connected and ignition switched on.
