As its the same on both handles & they have seperate linkages i'd say its more likely that the latch is faulty & stuck in the deadlocked position.
First try banging the outer skin of the door in the area where the latch is & pushing the door in to take the pressure off the latch while someone operates the remote & you can sometimes get lucky & the door will open to enable you to fix the fault. Failing that it is possible to get the panel off with the door shut without doing any major damage, take the rear seat base off first. once you have the panel of try tapping the latch with the head of a screw driver first again, if that dont work you will need to (carefully) set about the latch with a hammer & big blunt screwdriver & break it off. unless you keep the car garaged make sure you have a new one first as you obviously wont be able to close the door till its been replaced.

Its a VERY common fault on the C5's
Theres NO NEED to take the seat base out the door card will come off with this in situ..
It is the CHILDLOCK which is stuck on, and once the card is off you can Actually switch off the childlock from the OTHER SIDE of the little red switch in the door...
Inside of the door, its attached to - LOOKING AT the back ofthe lock inside the door - the BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER, behind the plastic, if you look carefully you can see the RED plastic switch connecting to the lock, switch it the opposite way to the position its in and open the door!

The child lock only stops the door from opening from the inside, If it was just the child lock stuck on it should still open from the outside ??
Removing the seat base just gives you a bit more room to get the panel off, It's worth spending the extra 10 seconds removing it & you dont even need any tools to remove it either.

NOT on the C5 I had here to doo TWICE! It WAS the child lock and was preventing the door from opening from inside AND outside.. I AGREE though, a childlock should only stop the door from opening from the inside, but its ALL I found, and after a bit of rining about found it a common problem with the rear passenger door..
