tyres

I have always had Michelin Energy tyres on my Xantia 2ltr. HDI and other Citroen cars I have had over the years, but I am thinking of changing to another make but am not sure what to fit, I only got 18.500 mls from the last front set dont think thats very good, what do you think, your help would be appreciated.

Its mostly down to the way you drive, I get 30k + from the front tyres on my XM's and I use cheapies, but then I don't drive enthusiasticly. Have a look in some of the past 'Which?' reviews, they give a good guide to tyre life.

Tyres are cheap compared to fuel!

Never do I want to find myself in a nasty situation wishing I'd plumped for better tyres. And if someone crashed into me because of poor tyre choice on their part, I'd be not too happy.

I'm not suggesting people should bankrupt themselves for rubber, but consider it a good insurance supplement and buy the best they can afford. If they save you - good. If they spend their lives without incident, think of the extra peace of mind and motoring enjoyment, they've given.

Well ive been less than impressed lately with michelins, there are far better tyres for less money. Just because these are standard fit on Citroens doesnt make them the best in my opinion.

Ive just swapped the michelin Energy savers on the C5 for Goodyear Excellence, i cant fault them at the moment. Grippy, not as saggy sidewalls as the michelins and a bit cheaper too.

The michelins seem to understeer all too easily for my liking, though they were the energy savers, maybe a les eco michelin tyre might be a better bet. The energies have a soggy sidewall, which dulls the steering and wears out the shoulders first. I didnt like them. Though ive had them on another car and was more impressed. I suppose different tyres suit different cars.

Though im happy with these Goodyears.

The Xm has Pirellis, they are ok, but they are new and ive not used them much in the wet weather, so cant comment too much.

I wouldnt be paying over the odds for michelins, i doubt ill be buying them again.

Sorry - but I can't agree. On my last 2.1 Xantia Estate I usually got around 35K from the front tyres. On the C5 I can never do better than 18K - in spite of having the alignment checked each time.

Sorry, didn't realise it was a C5. Another reason on my list not to buy one.

My C5 seems to do far better on tyre wear than the Accord it replaced.

Try Toyo TR-1's - a middle of the price range tyre and work well for me.

Driving style and how you look after tyres - pressures etc does influence tyre wear, though tyre brand also has an effect, some tyres wear much quicker, the T1-Rs i find wear very fast - but they are sticky. The main cause for different tyre wear is the car itself, ive heard it said a number of times that C5s are hard on tyres.

The last pair of front tyres on the C5 were on for about 18K miles before i replaced them. Those were Michelins.

Thanks to all who got back to me about tyres, well as you can imagine a few different tyres were suggested so I went for a pair of Dunlop £118.00 the pair Ill see how they do.

When Michelin made Primacy in 15 inch rims they were much better than Energy on your Mk 1. Maybe that was one of the reasons all Mk 2's have 16 inches.
