Windscreen Scuttle

Unread post by Chevron Terry »

Hi , This could be an obvious question , but where abouts is the windscreen scuttle on my mk 1 Xantia , and what the devil does it look like ?
Iam sure mine is leaking , after a heavy downpour yesterday .
There is no reference or picture of it in the Haynes Manuel
Many thanks
Terry . .

Its the Plastic part that runs ALONG the base of the windscreen, and the wipers attach to their spindles through it!

It SHOULD be bonded to the screen AT LEAST on the passenger side...

Hi Terry,

It's the black plastic bit that is bonded onto the bottom of the windscreen and covers up the wiper mechanism.

The bonding on the passenger side is critical on the passenger side to prevent rainwater running under the scuttle, straight into the heater air intake and under the passenger footwell carpet.

Windscreen fitters often don't understand the necessity of a good bond here.

Try lifting the scuttle off the windscreen. If it comes off easily, it needs rebonding.

To do this, it's best removed by removing the wipers and the two plastic "popper" that secure it at the ends.

Clean the screen and scuttle very well and then replace using an automotive grade silicone RTV (like bath sealant). This can be obtained in black.

EDIT: Sorry Paul, you and me both very keen to answer Terry!!!!
