High clutch peddle (pictures)

My clutch peddle seams very high, see below

The clutch is fully disengauged in the top 1/3 of the travel.

Is this normal ?

If not how can I sort it ?

no not at all,

you might find you need a new clutch soon, im prety sure your's will be a self adjustting cable,

if not try backing it off a little

Yes it's the self adjusting type,
Could it be that a new clutch has been fitted but the adjuster has not been reset, is that posable ?

It should be the highest of the three pedals, it looks high to me in the photos but I don't have a Xantia anymore to compare with so I couldn't say for certain whether its too high or not.

yes Mark it is possible and i feel maybe mine has that problem, as i diod fit a VALEO clutch to my car and the pedel bite point is quite high,

i heard someone reset a m**ro self adjuster by getting hol;d of the cable each side of the adjuster and stretching them apart from each other

Yes, doesnt exactly look right does it, i can imagine thats a bit of a pain to use!

How does the clutch feel? Does it bite strongly or does it feel weak?

If it feels fine and there is no judder or slip its more than likely that the adjuster is not set correctly or something.

I had a 2.1 Xantia from new in 1998 and the clutch pedal was always higher than the footbrake.

The clutch feels good, no judder and doesn't slip.

It's just the peddle is way to high for comfort and the wife complains about it, on the plus side it means she doesn't wont to drive it and my alloy wheels are safe

I'll check the adjuster on monday when I'm next off work.

Now that looks more like it, I know what to aim for now when addjusting my self addjuster

Ok so where is the self adjuster,
I've looked at the top of the pedle and at the otherend and can't see anything that looks like an adjuster.

Does anyone have a diagram if it and it's whereabouts.

The Haynes BOL is it normal helpfull self, for a start it states only two types are fited, self adjusting and hydrolic and then tells you how to adjust the manual type

It's in the middle of the cable, probably somewhere along the back of the subframe. You won't be able to see much though - just a larger diameter, possibly corrugated, in the cable. Not sure what you can do with it really - disconnect the gear box end, then try and pull the two halves of the outer cable apart? A similar result may be obtained by just letting the clutch pedal up with a bang. Or you may just break the plastic clip....

Ah yes, found it, above the undertray (yes mine still has an undertray after 12 years and 165K), so how can I disconect the cable from the g/box end without another pair of hands ?

just get hold of the end of the inner cable and pull it off the bracket

Got g/box end off and managed to pull the adjuster unit apart, tryed to reset it but no joy, I think it's time for a new cable but I'll go for the old manual adjusting one (under £20 from GSF).

Should the peddle have a back stop on it as mine is touching the stearing colum, even with the g/box end disconected the spring lifts it right up, can't be normal surely.
