Louder iPods

Post by Xaccers »

Having SX Xantias, I'm blessed with in car radios with iPod sockets.
I've always found that even with the iPod set on full volume, I have to crank up the volume on the radio so there's a lot of background hiss.

Turns out that on European iPods, there's a restriction on the output volume to save our children's precious hearing.

You can remove this with a program like gopod which really does crank up the output!

I'd imagine this would be very handy for poor VSX/Activa drivers who aren't lucky enough to have an iPod port on their radios, but instead use FM transmitters, as this would crank up the output strength of the audio.

If you update your iPod's software (the devices software not iTunes) I believe you'll have to re-unlock the volume.

Interesting, all the ones I've seen don't, and Jim's activa certainly doesn't, or is it hidden round the back?

It's on the front, my LX had a 3030 with the aux port and the 4030 is identical pretty much in appearance, same place. Mk2 may be different though.

As long as it's not a mark 2 xantia radio, the later ones didn't have the sockets. Interesting tip there Xac, not that I have an Ipod, or a xantia, or that radio, but I do have itunes. and a zx.

That's true of mine. It's not fair. Mine has a tape slot and radio: made in 2000! I'll be damned if I'm going to get some more dodgy clutter to feed input through the tape heads. I feel incomplete, and am going in for therapy in a Shepherd Neame pub. Hopefully that will make everything allright.

Oh yes it does :D Ask my girls, they know exactly where it is as they connect their iPods and assault my ears with Paramore and other similar teen pop

Hey :D I've found a unit like Xacs...it'll just pop in to replace mine and work with the steering column radio controls, won't it?

I do believe back in 2007 you had your MK2 Activa Jim, just like Juliet, with a Clarion sans jack?
:)

John, is yours a MK2 with a Clarion radio?
AFAIK MK2's are not compatible with MK1 blaupunkts.
