Front pad change Xant V6

Hey all,
I need to change the front pads in the Green Goblin (xant V6), I've had a look at the BOL, it only has a guide for one caliper type, the type with the retaining pin and flip up top, I did pads many moons ago on my old 1.9D which had such calipers and it was a doddle, however my HDi had totally different calipers, so I chicken out and went to a garage. My question is thus, does anyone know what type of calipers were fitted to the mk2 V6? the easy ones as described in BOL or something harder which requires whole caliper removal and occult rituals to accomplish?

Sid,

I beleve they are the same as the Xantia HDi 110 calipers - that being Bendix, ONE single 13mm Bolt at the bottom, and swing the caliper upwards, in a way, the same as the old XUD Diesel ones, but a bolt in stead of a Pin..

Then of course, the useual twist in piston.....

If they're the same as the MK1 V6 calipers Sid, they're a doddle and a half. Easier than the 1.9D pin type.

All you do is remove the 13mm bolt (I think it's 13mm

) at the bottom of the outer part of the caliper and hinge up to get at the pads.

Wind back the pistons using your favoured method, clean up, new pads in, hinge down, bolt in, check handbrake adjustment and job's a good 'un

In short, they're like the lesser calipers but with a bolt rather than a pin...

I realise this is about a V6 - and I've not changed these yet but need to
renew some s1 '96 Activa ones. Thing is, I've got myself all bemused this
evening after trying to buy some new pads after taking with the nice
helpful EuroCarParts man. There appear to be two options even after
giving my registration number. One I believe is the normal type with
a large tab on the spine that engages against the cover on the caliper.
The second doesn't have this large paddle/tad and appears to have a
spring on one (or even both) ends.

Apart from my marbles, am I missing something?

Im clutching at straws andrew, but I would guess thats either Larger Estate Type pads, for earlyer cars, or later HDi 110bhp / V6 S2 Bendix ( I think) as above with a curly spring at one end..

Both larger then the standard D turbo and 4 pot Petrol engines pads...

the other point is unhook the hand brake cable and withdraw it completly from the calliper before swinging the calliper up,

If memory serves me correctly I think the pads come with two new bolts with locking goo already on the thread.... presumably they don't want you to re-use the same bolts tho' I think that you could apply your own Hermatite goo if you wanted to.

my brakes have got a lot more travel than they did a few weeks ago, so i think i need to do mine.

is there a specific winding tool for the s2? thanks

No, not so far as I know. Never used one, I just use a square bar to wind them back.
