De-catting a Xantia 90 Hdi
I've seen a few threads on this subject with lots of disussion on whether it can be done, if its legal, what size of exhaust etc. However I haven't seen a definitive aswer from anyone who has done it answering the question. "Is there was a commercial/off the shelf exhaust available to enable me to decat?" most people seem to use the custom built, or weld a piece in method.
I'm convinced its legal on my Xantia as its a '99 model and after numerous repairs to the bend in front of the cat, I've been told "it won't weld again" and I need a pipe from the manifold to the middle box.
I would be thinking about trying to use the later exhaust without the middle box, if it wasn't that I'd just replaced it about 6 months ago.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone done that?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I wouldn't have thought it would be off the shelf but I'm sure a lot of places (though I know not where) would make one up for you
As for legality - perfectly legal on a diesel. Diesels are only subject to a smoke test and as long as it falls within limits you are fine. A cat won't affect this much and its one restriction you can remove to help the engine breathe better

The Bosal catalogue lists the same pipe for Cat 1.9TDs an HDi 90s. I am pretty sure the cat free pipe on the earlier 1.9TDs is a direct swap for the later cat item - and hence should fit straight onto a HDi 90 as well. Certainly worth a measure up at your local fast fit place.
No such luck with the HDi 110 which uses a larger bore one piece cat-included pipe that costs nearly £400
Still, I have a cunning plan for when mine lets go, involving 2 off £18 repair pipes, a couple of clamps and an angle grinder 8)

I CAN confirm all this..
My mum had a HDi 90 before the 110, and the turbos are different on 90 and 110's, and the 90 DOES use a 1.9 D turbo pipe.. I fitted one to hers, when the 'cat' snapped, and there ws NO PROBLEMS what so ever...

Thanks Paul.. That's exactly what I was looking for ...someone who'd actually done it.
Mine hasn't actually gone again .. but now I can keep my eyes open for a 1.9TD pipe and know that it'll fit.
Thanks again for the replies,
Chris

I don't get it as every pipe I can see in the Bosal catalogue has a cat...I can't see one that hasn't got a cat, be it for the TD or HDI

Yeah now I see.RichardW wrote:10th system down the page, item 987-531. It's a Macavity job!
If you use the later exhaust without the middle box you may have to use a different rear silencer as it may be longer than the one used with the middle box set up.c.morewood wrote:..... The rear silencer used on the straight through pipe system has a different part number to the one used with the middle box set up so there must be some difference!
Cheers.

So yours originaly has a middle box system on it & you replaced it with a straight though pipe and the original rear silencer fitted ok?
If so I wonder why Bosal have different part numbers for the rear silencers?
Did you notice any performance difference once the cat was off?
Cheers.

I personally didn't drive the car - she never said anything to me at the time...
I did a proper job, and changed it for a 110 bhp SX model soon after..

You would think it would make some difference to performance though wouldn't you.
Just been looking at the Bosal page again....there isn't a middle box system listed for the HDI 90HP that I can see only for the 110HP so I guess there list is wrong somewhere.
Cheers.

My HDi 110 estate has a decat pipe which is simply a straight through section of pipe where the cat used to be, I removed the cat from my VSX TD when it was just six months old, no problems with MOT's.
