Judging by the non posting here I guess you've got a fairly unique failure
although it has to be said the main focus for clunks on the back is always
the Activa ram bush so in the case of a noise at the rear maybe it's a case
where it isn't always the same failure!

Looking at the Citroen parts site image there's little on the nearside rear
although the receiving mountings could have play in them I suppose. It
may very well be you're the first guinea pig with this repair so take some
piccies for this thread!?

Being a '96, would yours require the later parts be fitted as an assembly?

An awful lot of "NFP" items, there.

Whilst the noise may appear to emanate from the N/S have you removed the bottom bolt from the balancing ram to check that its not the infamous bush?

The reason I say this is that I've come across a few Activa's with wear in the bottom bush and in every instance the noise didn't appear to come from the offside, also factor in that the balancing ram/bush will be subject to suspension movement from the N/S wheel due to the anti-roll bar. IIRC when Citroën published the service bulletin on the subject they describe the noise as sounding as if its coming from a loose tailgate.

OK, I give up, I've had this thought in the back of my mind all day and
I'm damned if I know what NFP stands for!! Bloody acronyms...

Citroen most definitely AREN'T:

Not for profit (anything but :x)
or NATO Furnished Parts or the New Frontier Party...
nor Nuclear Fuel Processing (even if they are French...)
and as if: Natural Family Planning Association...
National Focal Point

Anyone?
Now finished production?

What's wrong with NLA = No Longer Available if that's what they mean.

More likely No Fixed Price - variable by the prevailing wind

Replaced that item 8 some months ago, managed to source the part from a local equivalent of GSF. Cheap part, replacing it was just as easy as with the front droplink.

With the rear on jack-stands, depressurized struts and activa-ram, the rattling noise could easily be located, by laying under the car and moving on of the wheels up and down.

Yes, checked it as described, traced the problem to the droplink and replaced it. It did fix the problem. There should however be no need to do this on a trial and error basis, as the droplink is easily checked.

I'm sure I've seen some later Xantiae that have front drop links that are
the same design of the one pictured on the parts rear assembly as opposed
to the more normal ends where one is longitudinal with the main link and the
opposite end is cranked at 90 degrees. I have no idea however what the
length of the rear link is mind so this could be a red herring although this
may help explain how a parts factor had one in stock for you Kristian?

Possibly, the item was however explicitly tagged as a droplink for the rear suspension. The link was also more bulky than the slender front droplinks, but it may have had the same length.

Could it be that the activa shares this particular part with other xantias, even though the rear axle setup is different?
