HDi 90 Xantia - no aircon nor main cooling fans...
Having had the door hinge re-welded on car, got the car home to discover that the aircon and main cooling fans were no longer working - nor demist fan - evrything else OK, and no fuses blown. Took it back to the body shop, who first claimed that removing the OS front wing could not have disturbed any wiring. I insisted, and eventually they got it going again, without knowing how!
Later in the week, it stopped working, and now works as it sees fit from time to time (never when it's hot though like now in SE France at ~35ºC of course).
Hoping someone can help me here before taking it to the Citroen stealers...
Quite apart, the radio refuses to go into CODE mode, even when disconnected for 24 hrs, or left on for hours, the - - - - bars stays put!
HELP in desparation... one of those weeks.

Hi Lol,
Sorry to hear your problems - I've never had o/s front wing off my Mk 1, so not aware what wiring's hidden behind, but 2 comments:
The radio - did they use elctric arc or gas welder? If electric, could that have caused a surge in circuitry and knocked out the radio?
You say you've checked fuses are OK. Did you include those in the engine compartment? Could they have disturbed the cabling near the fusebox by the A pillar?
Good luck - Martin

This seems all normal except did you press and hold a certain button - BND comes to mind - which should then set it to CODE once the lock-out time has expired?lolingram wrote:Quite apart, the radio refuses to go into CODE mode, even when disconnected for 24 hrs, or left on for hours, the - - - - bars stays put!

Mine was rather like that until I replaced the Bitron sensor, it could be that yours has failed coincidentally.lolingram wrote:Later in the week, it stopped working, and now works as it sees fit from time to time (never when it's hot though like now in SE France at ~35ºC of course).

The only literature on radio I have covers 2030, 3030 & 4030 units. For the latter 2, it just says that ---- is displayed after a wrong code. Did it display CODE when you first tried to revive it? Does it display any numbers as you input the code?
Handbook goes on to say that after 3 incorrect attempts, unit will lock for one hour after each incorrect attempt, so one would think 24 hrs would be ample.
Silly thought, but you're not trying to input the code from another radio you had fitted previously?

OK. So where does this device hide itself.... is it easy to obtain, and also easy to install?lolingram wrote:

Thanks Mike - that seems to work and get it into CODE IN mode. I inadvertantly entered a wrong number, so need to wait 1 hr! I guess that means with the radio on?lolingram wrote:

After Mike's help with pushing BND until CODE IN, the numbers entered OK, but I made an error in being perhaps to quick to pass to the next button... will try again in 1 hr. Nothing in any handbook mentions pressing the BND button to access CODE IN by the way... worth mentioning?lolingram wrote:

Yes, about an hour of it switched on.

HDi MK2 Bitron(?) prob contd.....
I'm a little more confused since reading more and more on Citro Bitron (HDi MK2) stories... it seems to my addled brain that there is a Bitron (thermistor?) sensor screwed somewhere into the cooling system (thermstost area?) with a 2 contact brown wiring plug. THEN there is the Bitron controller somewhere else. I have located a rectangular device screwed to the inner NS wing valance, with 2 stoutish brown terminals... is this the Bitron controller?Thermostat house in mine. Guessing that it's same/similar in HDI.
In any case, is it the sensor that is faulty (if I DIS/ take to earth it will this say something?), or is the controller also supect.
As a guide, neither the cooling fans, the Aircon, nor the demist heater fan show any sign of life FWIW.

Bitron faults are very rare.
The Bitron has a plug with about 10 wires.
Brown temperature sensor faults are usually intermittencies that cause the fans to spin flat-out.
Your faults looks more like loss of supplies.
I’m trying to find a topic from MikeT, where he had corroded wire splices just in that place.
