Hi,
From my experience, the 1.9 TD had a totally useless heater- only really a proper heater when the HDi came in. My L reg was junk, as is this S reg. In winter, it was better to drive with windows open to de-ice than rely on Cit
heating.

I can't understand those comments unless there's something wrong with your TD's and to then say that a proper heater when the HDi came in leaves me even more confusedGregg1100 wrote:Hi,

All of the TD's I've owned have had a decent heater whereas on my HDi the heater only becomes effective after the additional diesel burning heater located within the N/S/F wheelarch has been running for the best part of five minutes. When that additional heater wasn't working the windows would continually re-freeze until I had driven at least six miles. I'm puzzeled.

I agree, all my TD's have a furnace for a heater, but mum and dad's HDi's take forever to warm up.

how to by pass heater matrix
Hi,
I can only speak from the experience of my L reg TD and my S reg TD. My sons Xantia 110 has a really good heater in his car. If it is the matrix that is coked up ( and I have tried backflushing it ) then the car will be on its way. I am not getting involved with all that work to change something which should have been designed for easier replacement.
I have got to find someone that will do the idler bearing wheel on the auxiliary belt for me yet. I can't do things like that anymore. I was toying with the idea of buying a non aircon belt and a manual adjuster--knocking the air con drive out of the loop -the bolt holes are there for the adjuster. Aircon is not needed in this country-especially after this and last years summer.
BTW. Fiat seem to have buried their matrixes as well. I think you could remove it it the Bx easily.

That's a good point, it could be someone's used a cheap rad leak blocker and it's gummed up the matrix.
Didn't someone mention they took one out of a BX and found something like an oxo cube in there?
