Front pads?

Unread post by Jennie »

Hi all, my discs and pads need changing, so yesterday i got what i thought were the pads for my s2 activa. Looked at my other s2 which was parked with a wheel already off and the pads were the same. But, the ones i need for this one are completely different! They are about half the size! Has any one come across this? I didnt know there were two different types, especially as i had two s2 activas from 1999, same colour, same leather interior etc but completely different brakes, i cant believe it

It's possible someone has changed bits at some past occasion. Did you measure the rotor diameter and thickness? From memory it's supposed to be 286mm; (thickness 28?)...

Hi there

I think that late S2 2.0 Turbo Activas had their brakes upgraded by Citroen and were fitted as standard with V6 front brakes.

Thank you, they are V6 front brakes. Unfortunately the bolt on the caliper carrier hadnt been greased for a while and the thread has gone (forgive my lack of technical knowledge if that sounds wrong) so im stuck with no car at the moment until its sorted. It never rains but it pours lol

That sound perfectly good to me when describing the bolt in question Jennie :D

That sounds like you'll be needing a replacement caliper then, unless a local machine shop can helicoil it. Look for a V6 or 2.1TD being broken.

Be careful with the T55 Torx bolts holding the caliper frame to the hub carrier. Their heads get full of muck which stops the Torx bit fully going home. They'll be mighty tight (Loctited) and unless the Torx bit goes fully home you risk mangling the head and ending up with even more unhappiness...

Is that the one that comes from the strut? If so, thats the one thats broken. I have a bad feeling were talking about the same bit :(

Oh dear yes we are :( I thought you meant the small bolt that holds the hinged part of the caliper; the one you remove to swap the pads.

You mean the two Torx bolts that secure the caliper proper to the hub. That's bad. Just hope an engineering firm can helicoil the damaged thread or the hub will need to be changed and that is not nice at all, involving as it does, wheel bearings and lower swivel joints, not to mention the often difficult task of undoing the driveshaft hub nuts.

Thankfully I have someone who can do it, it's just getting them to do it when they have the time. Its the top bolt that did it, the end of the bolt had to be cut down as it was buggered, then when it went to be put back in, it wouldnt grip anything

Poor activa looks sorry at the moment, i never have a simple problem. My other one is off the road due to having no clutch, this one has already had a new ram and now this... Couldnt have just been a brake pad could it? lol
