C5 HDI - difference between clutch cover and pressure plate

The main dealer tells me that the pressure plate is worn (at 27k!) and a new clutch is required.

In trying to learn more about the clutch I've been googling and wondered if somebody can help me understand the difference between the clutch cover and the pressure plate.

(1) is the presure/cover plate

(2) is the clutch plate/disc

i did try copy and paste but for some reason that didn't work either,

what is the secret to taking pages from sites like service citroen and posting them here

Right click on ot and
a) try the "Copy this image address" then paste that between two image tags ( )
b) Failing that, using photobuckets web image option you can load the image straight into your PhotoBucket account and link to that or -
c) download to your computer then upload to your image host and link from there.
Note that option a is generally frowned upon as you are stealing the bandwidth of the original host.

Try this for an explanation.

Had a look at Myglaren's link and I think we're suffering from a bit of Americanismation.

What they call the pressure plate I would call the clutch cover.
What they call the clutch plate I would call the friction plate.
What they call the throw-out bearing I would call the release bearing.

Apart from that it's a reasonable eplanation.

I agree but they are alternative terminology here too, with the exception of the weirdly named "throw out bearing"

wow thats like magic as thats what i was trying to do and exactly the same shot,

Hi Malcolm,

It looks like it’s no longer possible to link directly to pictures from the Citroën Service site.
I right-clicked to save it, and then uploaded it to the bucket, thus saving Citroën some bandwidth.

The bucket is a nuisance with all that animated advertising, but the main advantage is that you can write your own filenames.

Agree entirely about the bucket being an irritation

Do you have any free webspace supplied as part of your internet subscription? If you do, that makes an ideal host for all images.

I do this for my images.

Had to check as I do tend to be rather oblivious to adverts but there ain't none there.

Hi Jim,

Yes, they provide storage and webspace.
The storage of 1 gig is included in the subscription, but the traffic has to be paid for on top, at extortionate rates, and is very slow and full of advertising.

I’m with Telstra BigPond; the 51% government-owned remnant of the previous Telecom and PMG.
I have worked for them back when they were a technical organization, but by now they've become a bunch or door-to-door peddlers.

I’ll check on the job’s computer tomorrow to see what the download is.

Any version of Firefox will do as long as you have the Adblock Plus extension installed.
The Noscript extension keeps a lot of unwanted stuff at bay too.
