New A/C compressor

Unread post by anybloodybody »

Looks like the clutch has gone on my a/c unit.
(Only got myself to blame - I never used it enough)

I might as well by a complete new compressor.
(The family want us to go to France again this summer)

For a 1998 series 2 CT Activa - I think i'm looking for a:-

Sanden SD7V16 R134a a/c compressor

There seems to be loads of these new old stock units about, but the cheapest I can find one for is £200 plus VAT.

Anyone know where I might beat that price?

I doubt you will beat that price from anywhere.

Last time i replaced an AC unit was on my coupe and that was well over £200 for that from a AC specialist once i read off all the codes and serial numbers from the dead unit.

That unit was so dead it ceased up and burnt off the fan belt and caused me no end of issues. luckily it didnt take the cambelt with it...

Picked up a new compressor from Advanced Autocooling for £170+VAT.
Also bought a new drier/accumulator for £28+VAT

Wish me luck?!

It works!

The car now has working air con again; just in time for the summer!
Came in handy today, to demist the windows in the summer rain.

Driving the family to La Rochelle in August. 8)
Best to turn down the boost for fuel economy...and to help not getting zapped by the Gendarmerie.
I wonder which uses more fuel?...having the air con on?...or having all the windows open? (drag effect)

Depends rather on the inherent aerodynamics of the car but it is generally accepted that below 40mph, have the windows open, over that shut the windows and run the aircon.
