Feels really good, nice and tight but the radio code doesn't work that i have in the handbook!!
Gunna have to either fork out for citroen to get it, which now also apparently means i have to pull out the radio so they can get the serial number off it or try those online generator things which never seemed to work for me before...
Activa is back!!!

Good news indeed KP, what did you have done in the end, a complete engine swap?

Thanks old guy just generated a few codes now but will have to power up the radio to get it powered on as i already tried 3 times
Anyone know the pins i can use some wire from a spare battery to power it on overnight?
yes full engine swap
also got Rad replaced as well, belts were all done, clutch done (supplied the 2.1td clutch i had spare) and got some pipes sorted as well and all ecu's cleared as well, much flatter in the corners
Clutch bites right at the bottom now and the engine picks up so well!!
Not happy about one or two things but nearly sorted them out myself as per usuall with garages these days
When you start your garage up Jim you'll have me at the front of the queue for servicing

I'll have a look in my handbook when i next go out to the car as i have 3 generated codes to try.
Think i may charge the laptop up and go out and work in the car in a bit anyway to get out of my cubby hole!!
Does anyone know what the lockout periods are for the radio? im guessing now i've done it 3 times its locked out for an hour but how many more goes do i get??
Also i have a spare TD battery in the garage that i've been keeping and fancy putting it in the activa as its got a better AH rating, 65 IIRC compared to the tiny 60AH i have in the car now plus the battery would fill the tray up nicely and offer some extra cranking power as well when the weather goes cold.
Also noted that the engine oil gets upto 80 quite easily, ie for example cruised along the motorway this morning at a steady 60 behind a fastish lorry and it still stuck there with such little throttle use
Water temp stays steady at a smidge under 90 though which is good as i guess it means the 89' stat is working correctly and she pulls so well even from below 2k revs

The oil temperature (once fully warm) should be the same as the coolant temperature. When driven hard i can see it go to about 110 but i would take what the gauge says with a pinch of salt.
They do pull well from below 2000rpm. Mine is making good boost well below that rpm thanks to the small turbo. I've also got it holding very good boost at the upper end of the rev range, only 1psi drop from peak, be interesting to see what a decat does too.
If it was me, i would put an 82 stat in it.
Pleased to hear its sorted. Have you got the old turbo of the other engine? You mentioned it was a bit noisy, be interested to know if its got any damage.

Yes, indeed an 82 'stat is the correct fitment for the Activa. In my experience, an 89 'stat makes everything run rather too hot for comfort. Things are a bit marginal in the Activa cooling department anyway and the oil cooler seems to dump an awful lot of heat into the cooling system as I once found when I got an air lock in the oil cooler coolant piping. The water ran as cool as anythging but the oil temperature climbed frighteningly. It must be the turbo dumping a lot of heat into the oil.
I reckon, for you drivers of an enthuisiastic nature, a good upgrade on an Activa would be an oil/air oil cooler rather than the oil/water one currently fitted. This would relieve the stress on the cooling system.
Will, my garage is open to you at any time
Bit of a trek though...

An easier way is running the best oil you can afford as they dont break down as much at high temperatures. On the track i would consider an additional oil cooler but, as i have yet to track it and 99.5% of its use is on the road, no point.
Just making sure the coolant system is spot on should be enough.

I know i is Jim, maybe when you open up in the future you could have a central location in the countryside
I have thought about the Air/Oil cooler in the past with a nice 70' stat in the oil line but the problem would be, where the hell would you mount it!!!
You cna get small ones from other cars like the fiat coupe and such like but to be good you would need the airflow from the front and then to dump the heat into one of the wheel arches or dump the heat out the back of the engine, ie having a small air duct setup with the rad in the middle of it to intake and exhaust the air flow.
The other opttion i thought of was some small louvres but it looks a bit chavvy to me and means a bonnet respray as well...

C'mon Will you've got loads of space, no air con pump or rad to worry about!KP wrote:I know i is Jim, maybe when you open up in the future you could have a central location in the countryside
