lexia 3 software and VISTA

just replaced Xp with Vista on my laptop..and tried re-installing the lexia software...its not happening?

anyone know anywhere to dload the latest software or a way around this?

Not really. You only need a minimal XP installation to support the Lexia software.

download vmware, create a virtual PC and install XP on that.
or wait for windows7 (unless you like the classic start menu)

will have to do it nx weekend now...getting too late to obtain xp lite..install, plus its been a while since i dual booted so i'd have to become ofay with it again, then install lexia then sit in me car getting me faults!...damn should be so easy/quick!

That's a good idea Xac, or else if you don't want to play with vmware, give the Microsoft Virtual Machine a whirl. It too is a free download but do make sure you get the Vista one.

I use the Microsoft Virtual Machine to run an old copy of Citroen Laser under Win98 and it works a treat.

Whether or not Lexia will work in an VM depends on how well it speaks to the Windows APIs. If it does any tricks like bypassing the APIs and speaks directly to hardware than the VM may not work. Worth a go though.

If you are having trouble installing then go to computer, open the cd and right click the setup/install program. Choose properties, then the compatibility tab.
Tick the box in compatibility mode and choose an operating system.

If the installer now works, or you already have done this part, you can do the same thing on the actual program stored on your harddisk. Probably in the c drive, under Program Files(x86).

This sometimes gets older programs working on newer systems. Sometimes I've had to choose the widnows 98 option, but usualy XP works.

Sorry to question your actions but why 'uprate' the laptop to Vista, isn't it slower now than under XP?

Depends on your system really.
If you've got a low end Vista system, then XP will be faster in general, but if you've got a decent Vista system it should be on a par with XP and if you use the "benefits" of Vista it's of course better.

yeah did the old compatability thing..no joy.

yeap vista is equally as fast as xp...especially if you disable all the services that are unecessary.

Well, um, er, there's a nice rolodex thing to switch between open applications, there's the preview popup in the taskbar, er, oh yes, home premium and ultimate have media centre built in, both business and ultimate can join domains, you can easily stream media from one computer to another which is why I have my old cracked screen laptop plugged into my TV downstairs to watch the movies I've got on my PC upstairs, it still has the classic start menu which is one thing it beats Windows 7 on.
