My zx diesel is due an mot next month .
What should I be looking for, before taking to the Test station .

Check all the lights, horn, wipers and washers, tyres, seat belts for wear, exhaust for holes and rust of course. I suspect more will be added.

CV joint gaiters and wishbone bushes are a favourite. As they get older, the pressure compensating valves (on those with rear discs) tend to leak as well. Also handbrake efficiency.

Roll bar links, or Drop Links as we know them.. tell tail signs, rattles or knocks over bumps...

Bottom ball joints and track rod ends, jack the front of the car up, so the wheel is just clear of the ground, grasp the wheel front and back and try rock it, there should be no play, and the same for the bottom ball joint, graps the wheel top and bottom and rock...

What to detect the difference between play and rack movment...
