Appropriate Birthday Card?

Post by CitroJim »

In a few days I turn the big 50  Not a birthday I've really been looking forward to I must say. I really will be old then :(

I'm presently not feeling particularly well, so bad in fact that a trip to the Doc was necessary. Basically, according to the profession, I'm completely exhausted and need to take it rather easier, especially as years are advancing :( To that end, I'm off work and ordered to rest totally for at least two weeks. Ordered, in fact, to take a two week holiday from virtually everything :(

I'm permitted some light entertainment but that's it. I'm currently awaiting the results of a barriage of tests to check my general health

I'm getting a little better now I'm pleased to say but far from right.

Today this birthday card arrived from one of my very good friends..

Appropriate or what?  Cheered me up no end...

I don't think you know how to "take it easy" - Xantia owners are always on edge; ready to swat the next issue that may arise...

Hopefully your employers will allow you paid sick leave - not good if income stress adds to the mixture.

   Many have said the same thing. I have a bit of a reputation... I think my pal who sent the card was trying to pass a message...

Something I have got to do though Adam, however hard it will prove to do!

Fortunately my employer does pay fully for time off under such circumstances...

Rest and relaxation? Sounds like lying under a certain Activa would be just the job Jim ;)

so dose this time off mean the forum/s wont be going down on you/us for a while TEA HE

all you need is loads of PERCY WHAT SIT and you will soon be well,

To be honest Malcolm, I feel about 95 at present but I'm slowly feeling younger...

As for lying under an Activa, umm, not sure about that although I must confess I did do a quick job on mine this morning which involved lying underneath it - shh, don't tell the doctor! Quite happy to come and lend a hand though Xac, just give me a call  Heavy work is out though.

I'll be at the show on Sunday come what may although maybe not in the V6. My blog will have full details.. Looking forward to the show :D

From what I've heard you talk about, the amount stressful stuff you do im not suprised you've been ordered to rest

At this point you must think of number one, read the definition of rest in the dictionary and follow it (apart from the section that details eternal rest  )

Do the autoreplies on your email account, take a tempory back seat on the forum admin, maybe pop on for the odd post or two to let us know how your getting on.
Oh, and have a lie in, no I don't mean until 6:30  make it 9 or 10 8)

Kev, that's fantastically good advice :D :D :D

I shall follow it to the letter, except the bit about posting on the forum

It's bloody difficult for me to lie in until 6:30 let alone 9 or 10 after all those years of rising at 5:00   I'm practising that one and will seek advice from my kids; thay have no such problems!

May I ask which day it is?

Seeing how much you enjoy working on the cars I don't reckon that's the cause of the stress, in fact I suspect it's actually a relaxation of sorts, so it must be your paid job that's wholly responsible - don't you agree everyone? 8)

Therefore I suggest you push for early retirement on medical grounds, assuming that's possible without loss or pennance? I think the sooner you start your retirement project(s), the happier and healthier you'll become.

Sorry to hear you unwell Jim, Hope your feeling better for Sunday. Glad to hear your employer pays sick, mine woun't and they actually have the cheek to complain at me if I dare have a day off sick... I hate my job :(

Don't worry Jim 50's not such a mile stone in this day and age, my old metal work teacher from way back when I was a nipper is now over 70 and still creating strange contraptions out of scrap, as well as now restoreing a house somewhere in france.

50!

Nobbut a lad :P

Do heed that advice about rest and relaxation though Jim.

A bit of basket weaving, stripping and rebuilding the odd automatic gearbox etc.

Seriously, take it easy for a bit and you should bounce back again.

Thanks for the encouraging words Sid :D I think 50 is a very difficult birthday personally and for that reason I've made sure nobody does anything special for it....

Mike and Gareth, I do fully agree with that and I'm aiming for just that as soon as I can. My dream is to open a small specialist outfit just doing those jobs on Citroens I like doing, you know, the odd diesel pump rebuild, the occasional 4HP20 rebuild, Activa and V6 specialist and so on.

That's the dream but the reality is that for now I have two kids to see through their teenage years and Uni and until such times as they cease to be quite so dependant upon me financially, there is no way I can leave my job. That's not to say I'll not be taking the first opportunity to do so as I'm not entirely happy at work and know it's 99.999% responsible for my current predicament. Read my blog entry of today to see what I've been doing to aid my recovery and make me feel a bit better. It says it all I think...

fact is I have nerarly 34 years of reckonable service under my belt and after July I can begin to seek early retirement. One thing is for sure though, there is no way on this planet that I'll do as most of my retiring colleagues seem to do; retire one day and return the next as a "retread" on a fee-paid basis. I have better things to do :D
