Possibly even the turbo or supercharger conversion as well but with trying to sell the house, my work and Rachels the way they are at the minute i cant afford to be stripping one car engine out on the front lawn and trying to drop another one in. plus engine cranes dont move very well on the loose stone drive we have :(
Engine cranes aren't too good on grass either I hear....

I'm sure there are other people who would give you a hand or loan you a bit of space to stick the car for a bit until you do have time.

Well I'm going to call M&M in Holmfirth back today and see if they have a spare engine they can drop in for me and i can at least get the clutch done at the same time and maybe that iffy water pipe and properly fix the LHM one as well.

I drove the wifes SSS this weekend and the ford thing from work and god body roll even in the SSS is loads compared to the activa and you notice it as a driver as well so i wonder how it feels to a passenger, I love the activa and have hankered after one for far too long to just let it go now and know i wouldn't ever find a good one again for a long while in this kind of price band...

may ask M&M if they fancy a 2.1td Bosch engine conversion instead :D

That's good news Will :D Would have been a shame not to...

But you know you really want to drop a V6 into it but I reckon a 2.1TD on a Bosch pump would be seriously good. It's very realistic given the two engines are so similar..

Despite using my V6 for two weeks and not driving the 2.1TD for that long, I'm still well impressed with the 2.1TD, especially its power delivery and smoothness. On that basis, I'm convinced it would be brilliant in an Activa :D

I know Jim :) specially on some veg oil and some extra boost and fuelling setup as well :D

On a less dreamy note does the activa share the same clutch as the 2.1td xantia as i have a clutch for the latter and was wondering if i could ue it on my activa as its a genuine Valeo item that i picked up a long time ago for peanuts and has sat in its box ever since...

Also which Xantia gearbox has the highest ratiod 5th gear as I'm sure the activa could easily cope with cruising at 70 at lower revs, would a gearbox from say a HDI90 fit as im sure that has a higher ratio?

Will, I'll have a check later. I reckon the clutches are the same as they both use the ML5 gearbox. Interestingly, the ML5 on the 2.1TD is slightly higher geared than the Activa so a 2.1TD 'box is the one to go for.

The 110HDi may be even higher geared. Not the HDi90 though as that uses the BE3. That 'box works well on a 1.9TD...

Cool I'll see what else they have in stock as i'm going to try and get it over there in the next few days :)

They did say the Clutche's are the same if anyone would like to know though(thanks for offering to look Jim :) ) so im going to get that sent over to me asap and then take it over with the car for them.

Thanks all for the support, the new engine will be a 56k miler and will have new belts and all fitted for me as well and some other bits sorting if possible while its out :)

Anything you think i should get done at the same time at all Jim?

I may ask for the old engine back so i can get it sold on ebay for parts or break it up as i'm sure someone will want a turbo they could get recon-ed??

I absolutely suggest you get the complete removed engine back, the minute it's out the car.

It would be ideal if one of the Forum's resident "greybeards" (to use a slight Americanism) could open it up for you and diagnose the noise's origin.

Well im going to get the engine back, might take the injectors off and get them cleaned and sorted when i get a chance and some other bits but it will essentially be for spares if anyone wanted it.

I would love to lighten and balance the whole thing and get much better pistons that are well balanced put in there, sort the head out with some gas flowing and get a nice roller bearing turbo and dump it back in the car in the future but money, time and space(Children!!) conspire against that idea. think it will have to wait till i'm much older and have a real garage/workspace for such things lol

But yes i will be bringing it back with me in the car and if someone doesn't claim it within a few days it will get wieghed in for all of £20 once i get my bits off. Though im sure even a pug stripper would want it as when its off the car the crank work wouldn't be too hard to do...(He says closing his eyes and dreaming he could do the job...)
And all the old brake discs and pads and spheres that i have will get wieghed in to. only pennies each but ho hum...

2.1 Lucas Epic transplant and get it re-mapped to 150HP :)
Ok you can't run it on veg, but you should get over 50mpg from it (unless you let me drive it, then I might manage 25mpg)
1.9TD+ SX Xantia Estate (Cassy) running on 100% veg
1.9TD SX Xantia Hatchback (Jenny) running on 100% veg for sale
Laguna II 2.0dCi Privilege (Monty)

Nah i couldn't do the epic, It would have to be Bosch as it would mena i couldrun the veg and use all the extra power eeked out of it and not worry about 25mpg :D IE drive the activa as it should, maybe baffle the sump while they are at it lol

I have the "Seven Day Rule" for parts swapped. If, after seven contiguous days of usage the new part has not failed in any way, the old bits are disposed of.

However - should a problem occur within that time period, the old part is there for examination and comparison.

It may be just the way you have written them up, but the garage you refer to having worked on your car, does not fill me with confidence. It's why I suggest a third party investigation of the removed motor before making any statements about it...
