206 Airbag Light

Post by chemexhants »

The airbag warning light comes on intermittently and at no obvious point in a journey. Today it came on when sharply cornering after the car had been driven for about an hour.

I keep thinking it could be a loose connection but don't know where to start looking (no wiring under the seats).

Suggestions gratefully received.

Hi

I have had similar problem on my 405, progressed to making a clicking noise and then light on permanently.

Garage explanation:

In steering wheel airbag connection like a watch/clock spring as this starts to deteriorate light intermittent and then noises on turning etc. spring breaks and light goes on permanently.

My solution, duck tape over light non economic repair for age of car (13 yrs 248000miles) unless I have accident!

Yours may be this or an intermittent connection.

Regards

If it's the same part as on the series 1 306, I have one shortly to become available I could stick in the post for you if you like? You could have the airbag too, but I don't think I would chance posting that!

PS, the clock spring thing is easy to replace, although obviously the airbag and steering wheel must come off first.

Thank you for the replies. If the spring is the same as on a 306 I have one, so I'll give the repair a try.

Jonathan - really appreciate the offer.

No worries Stephen.

If you can manage to get on servicebox you'll be able to cross reference the numbers. PM me if you need the VIN for the 306.

Cheers,
