shocks?

how do you tell the difference between the front shocks on a 2000 306. would it make a difference to the ride height

shocks will affect the firmness of the suspension, springs will change the ride height.

Gas shock absorbers will give a firmer ride against the oil based type. I have recently changed the front shocks on my 306 to the gas type with the result of a more sports type handling.
But be careful, when you change springs/shockabsorbers etc, you must change the pair as you risk altering the balance of the car
