The C5 was (is) like a Transit in comparison.
Do you mean the quality of ride - or the seat height?!

I remember my SX had quite a low seat height. The Exclusive though has a noticably higher seat with more controls (including lumber pump) which provide a more comfortable seating position.

The seat height - and an overall higher driving position.

It is a rather firmer ride too. Until I have driven my son's 306 for couple of days.

I greives me to say that my daughter's SAAB is as good a ride as the C5 and her older one was better.

Cheerio Mandrake :(
Hope the move goes well, welcome to the UK :D
Home of rusty sils and weather systems which allow a day to start off dry, a bit nippy but with sun and by 2pm the roads have frozen over and we've a few inches of snow

Geez, never thought there would be a Citroen-less Mandrake! I'll give him 6 months and he'll be back....

Interesting what people say about Xm vs Xantia, I was thinking of one day upgrading to a XM wagon when I needed a bigger car, but Shane's recent comments on his XM have given me second thoughts. Interesting that it seems to be noisier than the Xantia as my VSX is not particularly quiet.

Try an XM ... They are quite a big car, even her in Australia they FILL a carpark space end to end... Find one without a sunroof unless you like bashing your head against the roof all the time (yes the XM has no headroom, my head bangs on the roof unless I have the seat layed right back.... I like to drive sitting up though.

Really..... Get yourself a nice old CX wagon... You will not be dissapointed, and you'll always have something to fill your weekends with (ie: working on the car  ).

C5''s, XM's, BX's, Xantias .... They just have no appeal at all to me, maybe I'm just even nuttier than your average citroen owner 8)

If i lived in the UK I'd have a street full of rusty CX's and SM's... And most likely no car I can actually drive

and of course, lots of old Citroens, slowly rusting away in pieces ;)

Kev! Don't go putting Simon off now [-X Even if we jknow what you say is the absolute truth

June is known as Flamin' June hereabouts. Mainly because the weather in June is usually so flamin' awful...

It's a bit awful here, too, in June. I have to wear three sweaters on some days; that's the trouble with working in shorts.

Nope not Paisley or Cumbernauld, it will be Coatbridge for now, and we will maybe move a bit further out into the country later on...
There are lots of Citroens around looking for a knowledgeable owner. Ignore the input from Shane. he enjoys stirring the pudding!
Don't worry, I'm well accustomed to Shane, both here and on Aussiefrogs  8)

Simon knows I'm a die hard, pig headed lover of the early cars (something to do with driving CX's and DS's since I was 16years old. I even drove them on my 'L' plates..... Does that mean I'm a very sad case if 19years later I still have the original CX2400..... and still drive a the CX turbo ?? The two cars being my daily transport for the last 19years).
I have a soft spot for the early models too, my very first car at 15 (yes we can start driving at 15 in this crazy country  ) was an orange 1977 left hand drive  1129cc G Special estate, a crossover model with the chrome bumpers of the earlier models, but with the rear lights of the GSA... that thing could really rev well but boy was it flat in 4th gear

It also got around corners amazingly well on it's skinny little 145 tyres, better than some other GS / GSA's I've driven, for reasons I don't understand... :?

Then I went over to the dark side for a few years (two Japanese cars) and came back to the Xantia. I came very close to buying a metalic blue 1988 CX 2500 Gti 5 speed instead of the Xantia but the asking price was too high and the guy wouldn't budge (he wanted $2000 more than a very tidy 1997 Xantia!) so I let that one slip away...

In hindsight it was probably a wise move as I wasn't set up with enough facilities to keep a 17 year old CX healthy and in good shape  My only regret is I will now probably never get another chance to own a pristine CX, especially in the UK.
I owned a Xantia VSX slugomatic and know own an XM 2.1TD slugomatic (my wifes cars). IMO, the Xantia rides better, handles better, steers better, is quieter ..... It's a generation ahead of the XM..... But I prefer the XM .... Work that one out, I can't
The Xantia is a great car, and probably one of the most practical of the Hydro Cit's, if I do get another Citroen it will probably be a Hydractive 2 Xantia, partly because I'm so familiar with them now, and there are still a lot around. Even though it's not very practical due to the high fuel costs in the UK, I have to admit I do have a hankering for a V6 Xantia, partly because there are so few in NZ that made it nearly impossible to get one over here...
I think Simon will end up in a 2cv or early LHD Citroen from France of some sort 8) 8) 8) Hey Simon, Renault Alpines a damn cheap over there  Seriously though forget anything earlier than a Xantia from the UK, they are rusted out POS compared to what you can buy out here :(
When I was in Scotland last September I saw NO Citroen's on the roads older than a Xantia, period. No GS's, no CX's, no BX's, not one. I did see a number of Xantia's and quite a lot of the newer models like the C series, and many models we don't get down under like panel vans and small trucks etc...

Simon

Lucky I'm not moving for the weather then, or I would definitely be heading in the wrong direction

The British weather is muslim - it's either Sunni or Shi'ite :P

And in Scotland, you can experience all four seasons in one day. 8)

Only two more weeks until I fly, GULP :)

Today I finally got some really nice weather (it is winter here after all) so I gave the beloved Xantia a clean and went for a drive to take a few photos of it, partly so I have some tidy photos to list it online to help get it sold and partly so I have some photos to keep for myself.....(he says starting to feel sentimental  )

For anyone interested:

Sniff

Excellent pictures, should net you a sale quite quickly.

That's a nice gallery too. Will have to investigate that.

Thanks, I've just listed it on trademe, which is the most heavily used ebay type site in NZ, so fingers crossed...

That gallery is part of Apple's MobileMe services which I'm trying on the 60 day trial :) I can sync photo albums up to it directly from iPhoto on a Mac.
