Another part identity quiz!

I decided to give the engine bay a goood old spruce up today. Whilst I was cleaning around the driver side suspension unit I found this lodged firmly down in against the bulkhead!

It's roughly three inches in length.

I am fearing it is something to do with the botched job made of the timing belt replacement which I had to rectify (they left a bolt out of the top engine mount and three timing cover bolts loose including one which secures the pump).

To me that looks like the spreader plate that goes on top of the O/S top engine mount, the one they would have had to take off to do the timing belt

the bolt/stud goes through the centre hole and a lacating pin locates (strangley enough

) in the other.

cant go into detail because i have never lifted the bonnet on a Xant but thats where it goes on the XM.

Well now I really am fuming

That really is taking the p*ss - it's shoddy workmanship of the highest order!

Does anyone have a diagram or photo that shows how it is located? I hope its absence hasn't caused any damage to the mount.

Dean is spot on.
You have been to butchers really ...

The part is # 1808.33 carrier plate, and should be located under the large fork rubber bushing, where this bushing housing is resting on top of a circular fluidblock.
It should be possible to recognise some curving on the housing to see where this plate locates exactly.

I can well understand your anger XEHDI, its not stupidity, its people not giving a dam about the quality of their work or you as the customer.
This is the exact reason i do everything myself now on the XM, after having cam belts fitted two teath out, engine covers missing, wheel bolts missing, i even paid to have a fuel filter changed and they took the old one off and put a peice of fuel hose in its place with two connectors!!!!!!!! when confronted they said they had to because they couldnt get a replacement the day it was booked in

. it may be no consolation but there are plenty of these useless gits out there, most i find are main dealers or chains

Colin thanks - that does indeed look very much the part.
I'll get to it tommorrow and check for any damage caused by its absense.

Dean I'm sorry you've had similar bad experiences. After the timing belt fiasco I decided to redo the whole job myself as I'm reasonably competent - but just needed the extra confidence and support from you guys

I am much happier knowing I have done a way better job than these cowboys had - and I replaced the pump at the same time which made it more justified.
Problem is these guys are (were for me) friends of the family and service two other cars in our fold.

I just can't ever see me trusting another garage again. I paid over 300 quid to have the job done by guys I've known for over 20 years - badly.

300 quid

My god! I will do a belt with tensioner for about 150 quid.. AND be in profit! And around here the area is FAR FAR to small to get things wrong... they know were to find me... so I HAVE to get it right!

This "dont care how its done as long as I get my money..." attitude also annoys me!!!!
