Xantia MK1 or MK2 ?

Post by fatherjack2002 »

Correct me here if i'm wrong, but was 1997 generaly the change-over year from MK1-MK2 ? , after this the vast majority seem to be MK2's, thats untill i recently spotted two Xants, a "T" & "V" plate both definatly MK1's, the "V" plate being listed here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0315469872, seem a little strange MK1's popping up nearly 2 years after change over ???....
Incidentally has anyone spotted this TD being broken for spares has leather interior, worth a look ??

All R reg (Aug 97 to July 98 ) ones I've seen are MK1's
S then ran Aug 98 to Feb 99, then T from March 99 to Aug 99

Could be old stock held back and registered late?

I thought it was 1998 as the change over year, as i have seen many R reg Mk1s and just as many R reg Mk2s. Could be wrong though.

The guy i bought my spoiler from is the same guy as who is selling the seats, he seems pretty good, worth a look!

August 97 was generally when you would see the S2 available.

My white R reg was a MK1 whereas my current R reg is a MK2. As you say, you can see even later reg MK1's but that doesn't surprise me as my 2005 motorcycle is on a 57 plate and confuses the hell out of online insurance forms.

Depends when it was registered really. You could technically have a very early MkI sinker on an X plate if it's been sat unregistered and then registered at a later date. Hypotheically speaking of course.

Generally though I've seen the changeover on the R plate. Seen many a MkI 'R' as well as some MkII 'R' (namely MikeTs)

Looks like a mid change over model AKA Mk 1.5
Take a look at the dash dials and electric counter.

For reference, my Xantia was built in Oct '97 and registered in late Nov '97 and is fully Mk1 with the semi electronic pump and standard ABS and AirCon and unusual for the Mk1s - body coloured bumpers!

It looks like a MK1 dash to me, the 'electric counter' is the outside temperature gauge within the rev counter.

Xantia MK1 or MK2 ?

Xantia Mk 2s available Jan '98, so later Rs onwards should be mk 2s.

But watch out for later registrations of Mk 1s(old stock).

Hope this helps,

The year plate on the car obviously relates to when it was registered not built so any Mk1 Xantia's on or after say an S plate are obviously old stock that's been kicking around a dealers for ages.

A clssic example of this must be Rovers and MG's you see on plates from 54 up to 57, I've even seen an MGZT Tourer on a 58 Plate yet Rover went bust in 2003 so these cars are anything up to 5yrs old when registered as "NEW".......
