Oh No, Dreaded STOP light is coming on...

Unread post by KP »

Since yesterday the STOP light is coming on on its own, just after the car gets to correct hieght after start up and has settled the normal STOP and HIEGHT type lights go out and it then comes back on but once the car moves it goes off. Then it will come on again during braking within the next 2-3 miles and not come on again for the rest of the journey.

Is it trying to tell me the front pads are too low or that there is a pressure problem somewhere in the circuit?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Low LHM or hydraulic pressure would be my initial thoughts.

At full hieght the LHM indicator(after beeing tapped a few times lightly) once the car is settled, remains at the top indicating its full to me or maybe over full. So does this mean there is possible some kind of pressure problem in the system or that another sphere somewhere needs replacing? They all look OE spec other than the ones i have recently done adn teh car rides, corners and brakes quite well. Accumulator isn't ticking too much either, not as bad as it was before i replaced it lol

tap the float and it bobs down then back up again and plenty in there.

Wonder if it means engine oil so have put car on minimum hieght on level ground and will go check it in a bit to see how much is in there.

Just checked oil and its a tiny bit over the full mark.

Stuck my finger in the LHM tank and felt the LHM fluid cover about an inch up my finger when put in as far as the finger would go.... Is this possibly low then??

Also as soon as the car moved earlier on the way home it went off and never came back on again even after a harsh braking moment... Lovely lorry driver trying to make my activa and me part of the armco....

Check your coolant level. Low coolant will bring up the stop light.

From your description I'd take it that the LHM level is sufficient, have you checked the coolant level as that can cause the stop light to illuminate.

Cheers guys :)

Checked coolant yesterday and it had gone down a bit below the cutout marker so topped it up and the light didn't come on this morning. Guess my fix on that thermostat hose isn't working too good as the engine temp rarely exceeds 80'c on the guage which i guess means my flush of the coolant system has done well :)

Thanks for the help guys :) I love this forum!!

Not a banana as ther is no obvious leaks and its not coming out in any amount big enough to notice.

maybe the filler cap is nearing the end of its life??

The only real thing i can think of is the repair i made to a hose a while ago using some plastic plumbing pipe and screw/push connectors. I had a tissue under them last night and there wasn't a drop though...

Ok on further investigation and as the water was getting used more i have found that one of the pipes i put in for the patch job on the hose that perished had gone heart shaped.. Possibly due to the jubilee clip being too tight and the heat. It was then allowing water to dribble past it so i could spot under the engine where the water was roughly coming from and after removing the airbox found it was duff.
Also found that there is a little device on the oil breather hose that goes to the metal inlet pipe, kind of like a flat filter, that is leaking air as well...

Can this be removed and blocked off and at the oil filler neck have some small kind of airfilter fitted instead? thus the oil vapours aren't entering the system? Has anyone ever done this before to a CT engine?
