Activa Spheres

Unread post by KP »

Im guessing that currently the only source of new spheres is Citroen??

If say i bought an activa that needed a new accumulator and set of rear spheres how much are we talking?

Do Plaides(spelling) sell these at all, jim i know you got yours recharged a while ago i think it was but if one is totally flat i guess its only value is of scrap metal?

Im being very sorely tempted by an Activa that looks in very good nick and needs the above and a lexia session as well........ :)

The rears you can still get from GSF, about £25 each? The front you cannot (yet) but i understand hydractive ones work very well. In any case they are not mega bucks.

Hi Will :D

I can sort them out for you no worries but this week has been one of those very, very (but good :D ) weeks for me.. Sorry, there are many, many posts and PMs I need to respond to

Standard Hydractive spheres work well and if push comes to shove, the Activa Accumulator can be subsittuted with a Standard Anti-sink sphere and the Activa Balancing sphere can de spbstituted with a half-flat main accumulator sphere!!!

Martin at Pleiades can create a full sphere set for ann Activa by adjusting pressures where necessary...

nest day delivery apparently on the parts above from citroen.

The one bit im not sure about at all is the strut tops which are my main concern.
I could live with a hard-ish ride(i drove a rock solid coupe for long enough) and i'd still have the estate for a little while till it sold.....

How long a job is the stru top?? an hours job per side once the system is depressurised and everything disconnected?

Thanks for the help jim :)

I'm definately interested in this now and pretty sure i will go for it. A lot on at work at the minute as well with big plans afoot as well so it would be nice to have this for the time when the kids are in bed, Rachel has her books to read/mark and i'm at a loose end after washing the dish's up in the long summer nights :)

The help would be mucho appreciated Jim :)
This car is definately one i'd love to get and keep in good nick as has already been noted, Activa's are declining so much that even the good ones country wide must be getting into the low 30's(nearly the same MPG as the activa lol!!!

A degree of resourcefulness will make the difference between "successful" Xantia ownership and those who see themselves as victims of French car manufacture. I previously referred you to this site: http://www.kolumbus.fi/perhe_pitkanen/xw/spheres.htm

When the Xantia was in full production, Koni made a range of lowering spheres aimed at sporty-minded owners. They dropped the car about 35mm and stiffened up the suspension. Painted yellow like Koni shocks, in case you find some on Ebay.

Some of those OEM prices you've quoted are so silly, you'd be better off getting a regas on the existing from Westroen or Pleiades.

A regas of my own sphere costs me $20 through the club; that's less than £10. Perhaps you could look into whether the UK Cit clubs have such a facility available to you. This convenience/saving has already exceeded my membership premium.

Cheers, Adam.

Same as any other Xantia (or XM for that matter) Will. All accumulators are the same :D

You know Adam, Somewhere In my stash I have a set of those Koni lowering spheres although mine are intended for a BX GTi. They're a bit flat though and I've never yet got around to getting Martin to regas them and try them on the Xantia...

I'll see if I can dig one out and take a photo of it...

Thanks Addo,

Sorry i didn'nt mean to ignore you other link to this. So much to read up on with the activa that i'm trying to abosorb as much as i can for when she arrives :)

Cool stuff so far i can get the rear corners and the accumulator from GSF which is much cheaper than i thought.

The next bit after the Spheres will be the strut tops which i see as being around £100 a side and the time to get them done as well :)

Good little project i have ahead me thinks :)

Got the spheres and need to fit them :) Lucky I did really as the rears are super flat so i guess they have popped thru the rubber bellow inside the sphere so wouldn't recharge and the accumulator im not sure of but at least i can maybe weigh them in at locally scrappy for a few quid unless some wants them at all as i doubt any sphere recharger would want them tbh :)

Yeah the rears had gone so bad they had been punctured but they were cit original's like all the othere spheres i've seen on it so i'm guessing somewhere along the lines they have all or some of them have been replaced, especially since it was used to tow a caravan as well for a while from what i can tell :)

It explains why there was an LHM top up bottle in the boot as well :)

Feels so much nicer on a road now as it was like rock hard at the back and i bet it wont be long before the hydractive and rear anti sink/accumulator need replacing as well seeing as they will have been taking the brunt of the suspension work while the others were dead....
