Knocking noise from rear of car

Unread post by speedbird001 »

Hi...

This is my first post so hi to you all...

Had my 2000 Activa for 2 years now and love it

over the past year I have noticed that I have a knocking sound coming
from the rear wheel area I think, only noticeable when going slowly on bumpy surfaces..

Any ideas...?

Cheers..

Hi Gav and welcome to the forum. I notice you're using Concord's old callsign, any connection?

Hi superloopy....

Thanks for the fast reply, I did find some mention of this in some other posts, I am guessing this is the £180 bush mentioned in these posts...

The knocking is quite bad and annoying so needs doing, others mention that its not that much of a job....?

Hi MikeT...

Thanks for the welcome, Yep...thats the white ladies call sign allright, Just a massive passion of mine (as well as citroens) :D

Hi Speedbird and welcome to the forum :D

It is more than likely that bush. A well-known problem amongst us Activa owners.

I have, in the past, made a replacement bush from moly filled Nylon66 and although a tad noisier than the genuine item, it's perfectly serviceable and I ran one for a year on my old Activa with no issues.

If you have the raw material and a lathe, it's not a particularly difficult undertaking. I can supply the dimesions.

Another Activa owner has enjoyed good results from a bush made of PTFE.

Push come to shove, I could make one for you..

Extracting the old bush from the ram is more difficult than it looks as it is a good interference fit. A couple of well-chosen sockets as mandrels and a long bolt and washers will do the trick.

£180 for this bush is a very silly price  I only charge £179.99 for one of my substitutes

Yes, she was exceptional to see take off from LHR, especially as dusk was approaching.

About a year ago I think, an FCF member (Andy?) was trying to get a xantia estate saved from going to the scrappies as it had a bit provenance relating to concord which special graphics on the back side windows. No idea if it's still in use or got scrapped. Sounds like your sort of car!

p.s. In (jovial) reference to your original question, you haven't got a Trunk Monkey have you?

Hi MikeT...

There was simply nothing better than watching her take off and as you say the dusky launches were awesome..I so miss her..

"One small step for man...I giant leep backwards for mankind"..as Clarkson said on boarding her for the last flight..couldnt agree more...

That Trunk Monkey stuff is awesome...

Done my front engine mount at the weekend, Next its rear bush time..

Cheers...

Could the knocking noise be due to the play in the ball joint at the top end of the ram ??

I posted on this a while ago.
