scenic 1.6 head gasket

hi all

more problems i have an oil leak from somewhere at the top of my engine on my 99 plate mk 1, 1.6 scenic ive had it looked at by a local garage and they suggested it could be the head gasket the oil seems to be halfway down the engine now i must add the car is running perfectly no overheating and its clean inside the header tank cap no white and i have replaced the rocker cover gasket the oil seems to be coming just above the oil pressure sensor and above that is dry is the garage right or could it be something else

im going for a second opinion tomorrow

well ive had the headgasket checked today and all is ok but there is still an oil leak and all the machanics who looked at the the car say the same thing the headgasket is leaking oil has anyone here done a headgasket on one of these cars and is it much of a job as it would be cheaper for me to do the job

I'm going to replace the head gasket myself so does anyone know or had any experience doing this job and what is involved taking the head off i have done a couple of 16v rovers and a peugeot 306 is it anymore involved than that

hi again

i haven't started the job yet but the problem is there,s oil running down the front of the engine behind the exhaust manifold.

My question is Ive read somewhere that renault does not recommend skimming the head as i I'm planning to have it skimmed or should i just replace the headgasket and leave it at that what do you guys think I'm planning to start the job on Monday so i need some advice on this ASAP

There isn't really any need to have the head skimmed if the engine hasn't been boiled, but if you can, get an uprated head gasket.

ok ill take your advice and just get a new headgasket but tell me what is a uprated headgasket? and were do i get one as all the motor factors i have contacted just offered me the normal one does it mean its better quality or thicker ?

UPDATE

I decided in the end to take my car to my local garage to get the job done i have it back now all done, i just have to take it back next week to make sure everythings ok.

in trying to do the job myself i couldent get past the steering a/c auxilery belt to get the cambelt cover off as i did,nt know how to release the tension on the belt so i let the garage do it in the end

anyway job done

hope it stays ok
