Hi
What coolant do you all use for these Citroens, is it just the normal stuff ?

Also, My eyes might be bad but where is the min/max level on the header tank.

I'm sure i will think of more questions in the future but thats all for now

.

Having had this car for a few weeks now and done a few miles, i must say i am pleased with it, Fantastic fuel economy, smooth ride and pretty comfortable, I have yet to get my seat in the absolute correct position yet but i will get there.

My HDi had the Orange OAT based coolant in it. I would have used this if I had realised but I had already bought some blue stuff to use.

I would advise using the same as what is already in there which is likely to be the orange. Either way, throughly flush the system to clean out any crud while your there.

The level marks are actually on the little cone type thing that is inside the header tank. It sits under the cap and the min mark is the bottom and the max mark is the ridge about halfway up.

Took me a while to find the right position but think I'm there. I do wish the height would lock in position though. Over the course of a week it slips back down and I have to grab the handle to pull it back up again.

When diluting anti-freeze (i.e. not the expensive premixed stuff that your just pour in) use clean rain-water not tap water. Tap water, even in a soft water area, contains a variety of chemical contaminants - some natural, some deliberately added by the water company - whose corrosive potential will be counter-acted by anti-freeze for several years. Obviously it's better to start with an uncontaminated mix.

Alternatively, the melted 'frost' from your deep-freeze (minus stray peas) will be as pure.

What is the OAT based coolant? Is it mono propylene glycol? If it is these should NEVER be mixed with Etthylene Glycol or radiator can rot out according to what I`ve heard.

OAT: Organic Acid Technology. There are 2 parts to 'Anti-freeze': the glycol which stops it freezing and corrosion inhibitors that stop it rusting the engine apart. OAT and older types use the same antifreeze (ethylene glycol) but the corrosion inhibitors are totally different. The old type needs changing every 2 years as the inhibitors are used up, OAT is much longer life - usually no change it specified for it - or if it is it's 10 years or something. Citroen OAT is very light in colour, and no change is specified for it. You shouldn't really mix OAT and earlier types as they can sometimes react and turn to jelly - which is not good....!

Well Ihave 25ltres of ordinary stuff. I asume it`s ok to flush out my 2001 HDI and go back to standard?

As long as you flush it out throughly, I see no problem. I did exactly the same thing and have had no problems so far.
