Activa Prototype

Unread post by ACTIVE8 »

Ah oui. 8)

Here's an interesting Activa video.

It features the prototype, an interview, and other clips with other Citroens after the interview.

Now, if my Activa had that four wheel steer, that would be fun! 8)

More video here.

Note this was the 80's so, now we are (edit.... eventually seeing) others using the door opening idea, (Mazda) and many others having the smart key system.

Well here are the doors from the RX8, which copy the Activa prototype idea, except the Activa uses a special hinge, to add a further movement, and trick to the way it opens. 8)

It looks like without the "B" post access as expected is great, and having the suicide door, is a nice touch! 8)

Interesting :D

Why oh why did they never put it into production

It's interesting to note that it has proper double-wishbone suspension (and presumably centre-point steeering) like the DS, GS and CX. It's handling I'll wager was better than the production Activa..

Another lost opportuninty by PSA

Yes PSA does seem to do a fair impersonation of an Ostrich.

PSA stands for in this case of missed Activa opportunities, no V6 in the U.K. not going into production with prototype etc for Put head in SAnd.

As far as PSA goes in relation to Citroen I'd say it more likely is an
acronym for Peugeot Spoils Anything? :(

Looking at a repeat of Top Gear featuring the Bugatti Veyron the comments at the end, were about they did it to show technically what they could do, even though they lost money, and a lot of it on each car they made.

So Citroen could have put the Activa prototype into the market place to demonstrate what they can do, although as the unit price would have been a lot cheaper than the Veyron, then they could have sold these special Activa cars at a profit.

Andrew
Was this PSA control responsible for stopping the prototype emerging, or controlling, and holding back the variety of Activas we could have had released here in the U.K?

I've never really forgiven PSA for not proceeding with the Xantia Coupe concept and instead making it a 406.

Just imagine a Xantia Activa V6 Coupe... :D

The picture of the concept looked really fabulous....

Despite that, I actually think the 406 Coupe is one very stunning looker and very desirable, the best-looking Peugeot ever but still, if only it had fulll Activa suspension and Chevrons on the grille :(
