Somewhere in my 'archives' (spare bedroom), I have a copy of an article that Jeremy Clarkson wrote for the official Citroen UK magazine in the early 90’s.
It must have been about the time the ZX was launched, and Clarkson test drove a non-turbo 1.9D version, went on at great length about how marvellous diesels are, and why there was no need to pay extra for the turbo version as the 1.9D had more than enough power. [:0]
Contrast this to the opinions he regularly expresses about diesels on TV – ok that article must be about 12 years old, but on TV he claimed to hate diesels even back then.
The man appears to say whatever the company paying him wants him to say.

i also have him in a performance car mag or an ealrly top gear one,in his ten favourite cars of that year he went on about how goodlooking the three door zx is, but saying the best model is the furio???????? said its just as quick as the 16v on the road and looks better without the tacky bodykits!!
clarkson is funny and entertaining but i NEVER feel influenced by his opinions!
needel and quentin wilson always got my vote!
isnt it funny how they go on about a car such as the 190e cosworth as if no ones heard about it. just goes to prove people watch top gear now who arent really into cars, its just an entertaining show.
i couldnt wait to get into work this morning to hear all my colleagues go on about the marvellous (how do u spell that) merc cos. as if they always knew about them, lmao.
also a big mistake was when that little shortarse said the merc cos is not very sophisticated!!!!!!!!!!!
he also said they were going to produce it for rallying but pulled it out cos it wasnt 4wd! oh my god how wrong can he be!
the merc cos engine is very complicated! the car has every extra under the sun, including self leveling active suspension and, wait for it! an ACTIVE 4WD system that transfers power to the front wheels when grip is compremised to the rear.
also get an automatic i heard him say! oh my god! what am i watching!!!! then dog leg five speeder is renowned to match the mercs engine and chassis in perfect harmoney, its realiable and quite! automatic! please someone pass me the sick bag. Top Gear is funny and a good way to spend an hour but please people, the info should be taking with a rather large pinch of salt.

Yep, the AX will certainly become a classic - just like the 1960's Vauxhall Victor - because there won't be very many of them around!

Ah,
"self-recycling" then!
I guess all that will be left of them will be two illuminated foglamps (day and night), some very large bass bins with jungle music coming from them, and a baseball cap (wrong way round)..
:-)))

HMMMM!
It appears that 'Classic' status is in the eye of the beholder and remains unquantifiable and elusive.
I suspect that if I were to buy then the vehicle in question would be a classic and have a price tag to match but should I require to sell then it would shed its classic status and become a very (possibly very very)old second hand car liability.
Already been there and been burnt.

boncechops - na I think the story goes that JC wanted Tiff and the lovley VBH to join him but at the time that Top Gear departed our secreens there was no plans to make another series. So Ch5 snapped up Tiff and VBH but JC was still under contract will the beeb so he couldn't go (or didn't want to!!). Then when the BBC saw the success of Fith Gear they brought back Top Gear but couldn't get back the old team cos there now under corntact with ch5.
I think the team they have got now is good anyway, they seem to 'mesh' well, and are all up for a jab at each other!!.
Wouldn't mid seeing a bit more of VBH tho she is lovley!!
