tow bar compaterbility
as you all know there are a lot of different makes that use the same base car for several different models ,so can anyone point me in the direction of a web site of forum that can tell me what towbars fit different cars.

What are your litigation laws like? One thing I've seen on "recycled" towbar installs, is secondary bracing omitted - either through incompetence or indifference.
Someone that's "tight" about a towbar fitment might also be excessively tight about other critical items. I'd be reticent to do their bidding.

Yep, I would check regulations.
I think that DIY you can do as you like (though you take the risk that you'll fail the MOT) but to fit one for someone else there are regulations to be followed.
I don't think the regs allow recycled towbars.
If it breaks then your friends might be OK about it, their insurance company won't.
As for what fits what car, try looking up the towbar for the car you want then see what other cars it fits. Though I think they are fairly vehicle specific.

Yes I also don't fancy a recycled towbar as much as I don't fancy using pads or a seat belt off a scrapped car, because you would not know the history of the tow bar, and therefore if it has been used properly, and not overloaded, or taken a rear shunt, driven into a wall etc.Homer wrote:Yep, I would check regulations.

Also it seems, some get them on a car they have bought used, and then proceed to touch park at speed any other car that happens to be around at the time!
I agree they are vehicle specific, and trying to get an old bar off a car that has had one on for years, will take a long time unless the yard gets their hot spanner out on the FT bolts!
Which will mean if you get a muppet in the yard doing the "hot spanner" work, they could affect the bar by heating up the bar as well as the bolts!

and was just wondering if anyone else had come across while on the web
Icertainly would not fit anything damaged or iffy looking i might be tight but i am not stupid!
